In this episode, I use one of the most memorable scenes from Gladiator as a way to explore something far more personal than power or succession.

I look at the relationship between Marcus Aurelius and Commodus through the lens of what I call the "legitimacy wound"—the lasting impact of growing up believing your worth depends on being chosen, approved of, or deemed worthy by the person whose opinion mattered most.

Rather than focusing on the empire itself, I ask what the throne represented, why one embrace mattered more than an inheritance, and how unresolved emotional needs can become attached to money, status, family businesses, and legacy.
