In this first very special episode, Les Lutins de l'Enfer hosts its first full English episode, interviewing Mental Cruelty vocalist Lukas Nikolai about the band’s upcoming album Echoes of a Forlorn Land (out October 23). After discussing his favorite candy (Reese’s Pieces), Lucas explains how the band has expanded beyond “blackened deathcore,” blending black metal, symphonic death, folk and pagan influences inspired by artists like Wardruna and Myrkur while still keeping some breakdowns. He describes experimenting with real instruments (talharpa, mandolin) and unusual sounds (didgeridoo, Japanese war drums, throat singing), plus DIY home-studio recording tricks. Lukas details his lyric-writing process, the darker Norse mythology themes, vinyl plans, praise for Montreal crowds, stage persona influences from wrestling, European headline tour plans, possible North America touring, Germany’s metal scene, and challenges facing touring costs and AI. Did Lutin O give enough ammunitions to Lukas to help him convince the Lutins favorites Caliban and Heaven Shall Burn to come on tour with him?

All this and much more!
