When Kenyan short story writer Troy Onyango—who had never written a story before—penned his first piece at a friend’s request, he had no idea it would mark the beginning of an eventful writing journey. Nigerian-British novelist Onyi Nwabineli, on the other hand, always knew she was meant to write. For her, storytelling has been a source of joy, for as long as she can remember. In this episode of #HowDidYou?, they share their paths into and through writing, the recurring theme of grief in their work, and finding time to write while juggling day jobs, businesses, family, and everything in between—even on late-night buses, at the gym, or on the ride back from a night-out.
Tune in for an inspiring conversation between two remarkable storytellers as they reflect on the moments, memories, and motivations that shaped their craft!
