    In a sweltering Manhattan summer, Clover is summoned to Celia Jordan’s ransacked apartment, where bloodstains and conflicting stories suggest that the missing woman’s closest acquaintances may know more than they admit. A telephone call from Celia sends the investigation toward former suitor Cliff Moore and businessman Paul Chelsea, amid the heat and shadows of Broadway.
