  • Are there any Oilers regulars at risk of losing their jobs?
    2025/08/15

It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed bubble players, winning jobs at camp, PTOs, and much more.

We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the Oilers' roster and whether any players who played last year could find themselves on the bubble. While many slots on the roster are likely written in ink, we looked at the fourth line and wondered if either of Mattias Janmark or Kasperi Kapanen could get beat out for a job. With plenty of competition fighting for those jobs, it's fair to ask if any of the veterans are at risk of losing a spot.

Changing gears, the guys walked through the little Oilers news that's happened over the last week, including some minor league signings in Bakersfield, Connor McDavid's extension, and Andrew Mangiapane's new baby. And while there isn't much happening right now, that didn't stop the boys from yammering on about these limited items anyway. Even so, the big news everyone is waiting for is when Connor McDavid will sign his extension, and even though it's taking longer than we may hope, there's still no need to be concerned about having No. 97 back.

Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week. With just over two months left until the start of the 2025-26 season, the guys spent the bulk of the Friday episode talking about an array of topics that were Oilers-related or not at all, but that’s what happens in August.

  • Ryan Nugent-Hopkins legacy & Leon Draisaitl gets married
    2025/08/08

It was a mixed crew on Oilersnation Radio today, with three of the regular five taking a break ahead of the weekend. Cam and Kennedy joined Liam and Rick to break down everything that’s happened with the Oilers over the past week — which, admittedly, hasn’t been much.

The show kicked off with a discussion about Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ legacy. Heading into the season, Nugent-Hopkins is on pace to play his 1,000th game as an Oiler. He also has a chance to finish top five in franchise history for points and could become the first player to start and finish his entire career in Edmonton. The question was posed: how should Nugent-Hopkins’ legacy be defined?

Over the weekend, three Oilers tied the knot, including star forward Leon Draisaitl. Kennedy recapped all the details from the South of France, including who was — and wasn’t — in attendance. The crew also discussed the “friendmoon” Draisaitl and Connor McDavid are currently enjoying with their wives, and how that might factor into McDavid’s future in Edmonton.

The episode wrapped up with another round of Ask the Idiots, followed by the Hot and Cold Performers of the week.

  • Are new Oilers contract extensions coming in August?
    2025/08/01

It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed Western Conference contenders, goaltending, the Jays' run, and much more.

We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about which new Oiler the fellas are most excited to watch during the 2025-26 season. From Andrew Mangiapane signing as a free agent to Matt Savoie and Isaac Howard being two blue-chip prospects with plenty of upside, the guys were bullish on some of the new guys being able to contribute in a meaningful way. Of course, we are in the middle of Kool-Aid szn, so expecting anything less from the crew would be unwise at this stage of the summer.

Changing gears, we looked at some of the extension rumours that came out last week. Bob Stauffer hinted on his show that there could be a run of contract extensions happening before the end of the month, and that hope for news had the fanbase buzzing. Sticking with contract extensions, we then looked at a report from Frank Seravalli where he guesses what Connor McDavid's extension will look like for value and term.

  • Some Oilers talk and plenty of unrelated nonsense
    2025/07/25

It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed Western Conference contenders, goaltending, the Jays' run, and much more.

We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the Western Conference contenders and whether any of the teams with Stanley Cup dreams have gotten better. Outside of maybe the Vegas Golden Knights, who locked in Mitch Marner as their big free agent play, there aren't many other clubs you could say legitimately got better. Maybe that's the boys drinking the July Kool-Aid, but everyone on the podcast still feels bullish on Edmonton's chances to get through the west.

Next, we kicked off the news segment of the podcast with a quick recap of the limited news items that had occurred over the last week and speculated on whether we would receive any new updates over the next handful of days or weeks. With nothing happening, we looked at some quotes from Corey Perry about leaving Edmonton, Warren Foegele's wedding, and ran through a few quotes from Stan Bowman about the goaltending.

Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week. With just over two months left until the start of the 2025-26 season, the guys spent the bulk of the Friday episode talking about why we should feel confident heading into this next season and how the Oilers are a much different hockey team this time around.

  • Oilers rumours, the new coaching staff, and the 2025-25 NHL schedule
    2025/07/18

It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed mid-summer rumours, new coaches, the 2025-26 NHL schedule, the new CBA, and much more.

We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the NHL rumour mill and whether any of the remaining names would be of interest here in Edmonton. While everyone thinks the roster is mostly set, that doesn't mean that Stan Bowman won't still be working the phones to seek potential upgrades regardless of the position. Will Bowman surprise us with a trade no one sees coming? Is he done making moves for now?

Changing gears, we looked through some of the news that came down the pipe over the last week, and gave our takes on what's still left to be done. From the CBA being extended to the 2025-26 NHL schedule being released to where the Oilers are with their goalie search, the guys walked through all of the biggest stories in Edmonton. Needless to say, we're in the summer dead zone for NHL news, but that doesn't mean there isn't still plenty of Oilers topics to talk about.

Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week. After punching their ticket to the Stanley Cup Final, the guys spent the bulk of the Friday episode talking about why we should feel confident heading into this rematch against Florida, and how the Oilers are a much different hockey team this time around.

  • Welcoming Ike Howard To Edmonton & More Oilers Offseason Talk
    2025/07/10

Tyler, Liam, Rick and Dan sat down for a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio. The group had some fresh news to talk about as well as on Tuesday, the Oilers acquired Ike Howard from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Sam O’Reilly.

They discussed their initial reactions to the deal, where The 2025 Hobey Baker award winner was the top player could fit in the lineup next season, and which centre he could fit best next to. They also talked about the mini youth movement that could be happening next season in Edmonton and what the expectations should be for young players like Howard and Matt Savoie.

From there, they talked about whether or not they think Oilers GM Stan Bowman is done for the summer. There are rumblings that they still might be looking to upgrade their goaltending tandem. They also touched on the recent rumours that Darnell Nurse was asked to waive his no-movement clause but refused. Nurse himself threw cold water on it, but the guys still talked about the idea that he could be traded at some point.

To wrap up the pod, they hit on the Calder Trophy odds and a few over/unders for some players who are joining new teams next season on Bet365. They also gave out their hot performers for the week which included the Blue Jays, a viral fight involving a former NHLer, the new CBA, and the zoo.
