The Whispering Woods: After Dark was formerly known as Obscurata.

It is still the place for the darker stories. The unsolved cases, strange disappearances, true crime, occult history, paranormal reports and unexplained events that don’t quite fit anywhere else.

Each episode looks at the stories that linger after the lights go out. Some are rooted in crime. Some in folklore. Some in witness accounts, old reports, rumours, fear and the things people have never been able to fully explain.

Different name. Same dark corners.

  • The Year Without a Summer: Mount Tambora, Frankenstein, and the Summer That Never Came
    2026/08/29
In 1816, snow fell in June, crops failed across Europe and North America, and thousands feared the end of the world. Known as the Year Without a Summer, this extraordinary period was caused by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Tambora a year earlier, although nobody at the time knew the true reason. As famine spread and old superstitions resurfaced, a group of writers trapped by the relentless storms at Lake Geneva created Frankenstein and The Vampyre, changing horror literature forever. The BOOKBY US A COFFEESubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch:https://www.britannica.com/event/Year-Without-a-Summerhttps://www.britannica.com/place/Mount-Tamborahttps://www.usgs.gov/programs/VHP/1815-eruption-mount-tamborahttps://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/1510/tamborahttps://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/topics/year-without-summer-1816https://blog.nms.ac.uk/2020/04/10/the-eruption-of-mount-tambora/https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20210817-the-year-summer-never-camehttps://www.history.com/articles/the-year-without-a-summerhttps://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/article/1816-year-without-summerhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_Without_a_Summerhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1815_eruption_of_Mount_Tamborahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villa_Diodatihttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankensteinhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_VampyreSarah xx"Spacial Winds," Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licenced under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licencehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/SURVEY https://podcastsurvey.typeform.com/to/mDi5IVFf Hosted on Acast. • Count Its Legs: Kerala’s Shape-Shifting Odiyans | Malayali folklore from Kerala in South India
    2026/08/22
Before electric light reached the villages of rural Kerala, travellers were warned to examine every animal waiting beside the road. An unnatural bull, dog or buffalo might be an Odiyan, a practitioner of secret magic said to change shape, stalk victims through the darkness and carry out attacks for those willing to pay.The BOOKBY US A COFFEESubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch:https://ml.wikisource.org/wiki/ഐതിഹ്യമാല/ചെമ്പ്രയെഴുത്തച്ഛന്മാർhttps://www.gutenberg.org/files/35690/35690-h/35690-h.htmhttps://archive.org/stream/in.ernet.dli.2015.71073/2015.71073.Cochin-State-Manual_djvu.txthttps://global.oup.com/academic/product/lore-and-legends-of-kerala-9780195698893https://www.keralatourism.org/districts/palakkad/https://indiaartreview.com/stories/odiyan-dark-knights-that-dwarf-halloween/https://www.newindianexpress.com/kerala/2025/Nov/04/keralas-mysterious-odiyan-legends-find-global-recognitionhttps://ml.wikipedia.org/wiki/ഒടിയൻhttps://ijrar.org/papers/IJRAR25B2484.pdfhttps://ideas.repec.org/a/ajp/edwast/v8y2024i6p5687-5692id3239.htmlSarah xx"Spacial Winds," Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licenced under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licencehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/SURVEY https://podcastsurvey.typeform.com/to/mDi5IVFf Hosted on Acast.
