God gives Saul a clear command, but Saul chooses to obey only part of it. When confronted by Samuel, Saul insists that he obeyed and then offers excuses for what he did not do. Samuel responds with an important truth: “To obey is better than sacrifice.” God is not looking for partial obedience, excuses, or attempts to make up for disobedience afterward. He calls us to trust His Word and obey Him, even when His instructions are difficult or different from what we would choose. Jesus gives us the greatest example. He was obedient to the Father even to the point of death on the cross. Because of His obedience, we have salvation through Him. The question for us is simple: Will we trust God enough to obey Him?
