“Your Amen is not just something you say at the end of a prayer; it is a declaration that your life is coming into agreement with the God who spoke the Word.”
The Greek word for Amen is ἀμήν (amēn).
It carries the sense of:
- Truly
- Certainly
- Surely
- It is true
- So be it
- I affirm/agreed
But there’s something especially powerful for your podcast: Amen is not originally a Greek word. Greek ἀμήν is a transliteration of the Hebrew/Aramaic אָמֵן (āmēn).
The Hebrew root is connected to the idea of being firm, reliable, trustworthy, or certain.
That's why when Jesus says “Amen, I say to you…”—often translated “Truly, I say to you”—He is emphasizing the certainty and truthfulness of what He is about to say.
And Revelation 3:14 takes this even further, where Jesus is called:
“The Amen, the faithful and true Witness...”
So for your episode, you could make this statement:
“Amen isn't just a word we say. Amen is a declaration of certainty: God is faithful, God's Word is true, and I agree with what God has said.”
