  • 30. Cam McKay Part 2
    2026/05/13
    Hello and welcome back -
Today's episode is part two of my interview with Cameron McKay.

Cam is a fellow trauma survivor and creator of Shit Creek Survivors podcast.
You can also listen to the podcast on Spotify.

Last time, we spoke about Cam's experience being shot on duty when he was working as a police officer, and how being shot led to him unraveling things that had long been buried.

This episode covers more of the beginning of Cam's life, and his first experiences with trauma and coercive control. We cover how this initial trauma lived with him, and affected him throughout life until he finallly looked it in the eye and processed it.

Please take care while listening, as there are references to childhood sexual abuse in this episode.

I hope this episode helps those of you who have endured similar circumstances.

If you have questions, thoughts, or topics you’d like covered, you can use the contact form on practicalsomatic.com/podcast.

If you — or someone you know — is interested in further resources, somatic coaching with me, or advice and guidance (sounding board sessions) to support healing after narcissistic or coercive abuse, you can find more information at practicalsomatic.com.

If this episode resonates, rating or reviewing the podcast helps it reach people who are still trying to make sense of their experience.

    Thanks!

  • 29. Cameron McKay - Resillience and the Long Shadow of Trauma
    2026/05/04
    Hello and welcome back -
Today I am speaking with friend of the pod, Cameron McKay.
If you listened to episode 23, you'll recognize his voice.
Cam is a fellow trauma survivor and creator of Shit Creek Survivors podcast.
You can also listen to the podcast on Spotify.

Together we talk about Cam's experience being shot on duty when he was working as a police officer. He talks a little about what the job was like, the mentality of being someone who endures trauma for a living (because being a cop is not like other jobs), and how being shot led to him unraveling things that had long been buried.

This episode may be triggering for some, so please take care in listening. Cam's is a powerful story, and covers a wide breadth of traumatic experiences including surviving alcoholism, a coma and near death experience, ego, and ultimately childhood abuse.

I hope this episode helps those of you who have endured similar circumstances.

Please let us know if you have questions for Cam, as I am already planning to get him back for a Part Two.

  • 28. Mr Unavailable (Continued) - Mia Döring Tells Her Story
    2026/04/29
Hello and welcome back for part two of my conversation with Mia Döring.

Today we are talking about how Mia moved on from the relationship with Tommy, what scars it left, and how she picked up the pieces and began to heal.

We also talk about her book:
Any Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Prostitution in Ireland.
A book that I wish I could read again for the first time.

And she also mentions Baggage Reclaim and Natalie Lue's book Mr Unavailable and the Fallback Girl - both resources she credits for supporting her healing.

    I hope you enjoy.

    2026/04/22
    Hello and welcome back -
Today I sit down with author, therapist, speaker, and survivor of narcissistic abuse and coercive control - Mia Döring.

If you listened to season 1, you would have definitely heard me talk about her book:
Any Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Prostitution in Ireland.
If you haven't, I highly highly recommend it. It is a memoir that recounts her time growing up and becoming involved with the sex trade in Ireland, and ultimately becoming an escort before escaping and beginning to make sense of what had happened to her.
It is beautifully written, and I highly recommend the audiobook version - as Mia narrates it very well.

Join us for part one of this two part interview, as we talk about her journey navigating a narcisisstic relationship; how it started, where it went, and how she got out.
    I hope you enjoy.

  • 26. When Self Advocacy Feels Bad
    2026/04/15
    Hello and welcome back -

Today's episode is all about self advocacy. What is it, really - and what do we trauma survivors sometimes THINK it is. Where does gaslighting come in, and what does the body have to say about all of this?
Join me as I share my experiences from 2024... 2 years on! That's right, this episode is actually a throwback episode from a time in my life that was quite chaotic, and so I completely forgot to upload it! I found it really interesting to hear me then, as I sat with me now - and notice the changes.

So, as you listen today, I hope you reflect on where you were 2 years ago. What has changed, how have you healed, and how is your life better now than it was then? It's important to notice progress, and that's something we often forget about!

    I hope you enjoy.

  • 25. Neighborhood Narc - Melissa Tells Her Story
    2026/04/08
    Hello and welcome back -

Today's episode is a longer one, and marks our first published interview. Join me as I talk with my good friend Melissa, and we hear her story of dealing with a very disagreeable neighbor and HOA member. You guessed it - Narcissism impacts you whether the person is a close personal friend, family member, romantic connection, or even a neighbor. Listen along and find out how Melissa navigated this situation - which included brick throwing, a lawyer, a parking space mistake, negative health impacts, a surprising open house, and the eventual sale of her property.

    I hope you enjoy.

  • 24. Two Keys to Recovery (Embodiment + Self Love)
    2026/04/02
    Hello and welcome back -

Today's episode is focused on two important keys to tackling narcissistic abuse, experiencing recovery, and getting your life back. These are the two most important lessons I have learned in my healing journey, and they are the two things I focus on most with my coaching clients.

    They are:

    Embodiment and Self Love.

Join me as I talk you through why these tools are so important, and how they help in the face of narcissistic interactions. They are both an offense and a defense, and will help you recognise what's going on in real time, and get out - because you deserve more.

    I hope you enjoy.

    2026/03/17
Today I am sharing a podcast episode from Sh!t Creek Survivors. I was recently on as a guest to talk about the impacts of narcissism. If you are a fan of my podcast, then you've heard a lot of this before, but maybe not as one story, reaching from my childhood to now.

Cam is a great interviewer, and I think there is a lot of value in this episode. While recording, I realised that we might have more in common than I thought - so I reached out to Cam to see if he'd be a guest on an upcoming episode to tell his story of coercion. He agreed, so stay tuned for that one in the next month or so.

Thanks for listening, and here are the shownotes from Cam's pod to give you more context, and contacts for him as well:
