  • 30. Cam McKay Part 2
    2026/05/13
    Hello and welcome back -
Today's episode is part two of my interview with Cameron McKay.

Cam is a fellow trauma survivor and creator of Shit Creek Survivors podcast.
You can also listen to the podcast on Spotify.

Last time, we spoke about Cam's experience being shot on duty when he was working as a police officer, and how being shot led to him unraveling things that had long been buried.

This episode covers more of the beginning of Cam's life, and his first experiences with trauma and coercive control. We cover how this initial trauma lived with him, and affected him throughout life until he finallly looked it in the eye and processed it.

Please take care while listening, as there are references to childhood sexual abuse in this episode.

I hope this episode helps those of you who have endured similar circumstances.

If you have questions, thoughts, or topics you’d like covered, you can use the contact form on practicalsomatic.com/podcast.

If you — or someone you know — is interested in further resources, somatic coaching with me, or advice and guidance (sounding board sessions) to support healing after narcissistic or coercive abuse, you can find more information at practicalsomatic.com.

If this episode resonates, rating or reviewing the podcast helps it reach people who are still trying to make sense of their experience.

    Thanks!

  • 29. Cameron McKay - Resillience and the Long Shadow of Trauma
    2026/05/04
    Hello and welcome back -
Today I am speaking with friend of the pod, Cameron McKay.
If you listened to episode 23, you'll recognize his voice.
Cam is a fellow trauma survivor and creator of Shit Creek Survivors podcast.
You can also listen to the podcast on Spotify.

Together we talk about Cam's experience being shot on duty when he was working as a police officer. He talks a little about what the job was like, the mentality of being someone who endures trauma for a living (because being a cop is not like other jobs), and how being shot led to him unraveling things that had long been buried.

This episode may be triggering for some, so please take care in listening. Cam's is a powerful story, and covers a wide breadth of traumatic experiences including surviving alcoholism, a coma and near death experience, ego, and ultimately childhood abuse.

I hope this episode helps those of you who have endured similar circumstances.

Please let us know if you have questions for Cam, as I am already planning to get him back for a Part Two.

  • 28. Mr Unavailable (Continued) - Mia Döring Tells Her Story
    2026/04/29
Hello and welcome back for part two of my conversation with Mia Döring.

Today we are talking about how Mia moved on from the relationship with Tommy, what scars it left, and how she picked up the pieces and began to heal.

We also talk about her book:
Any Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Prostitution in Ireland.
A book that I wish I could read again for the first time.

And she also mentions Baggage Reclaim and Natalie Lue's book Mr Unavailable and the Fallback Girl - both resources she credits for supporting her healing.

    I hope you enjoy.
