The primary focus of this podcast episode revolves around the strategic considerations for hunting elk during the early season, particularly emphasizing the significance of topography and environmental conditions. We elucidate how the early season heat compels elk to seek refuge in north-facing slopes, where the presence of timber provides both moisture and shade. Furthermore, we assert that the aspect of the terrain frequently supersedes mere elevation in terms of its relevance to elk behavior. It is our contention that north slopes serve as critical bedding areas for elk, especially after the south slopes have been vacated by mid-morning.
