Welcome to the Nondual Wisdom and the Pathless Path podcast.

I’m your host, Stephan Bodian. I’m a psychotherapist and spiritual teacher, founder and director of the School for Awakening, and the author of several books, including Meditation for Dummies, Wake Up Now, and the forthcoming book Infinite Awakening.

Join me periodically for wide-ranging explorations of spiritual awakening and the nature of reality, incorporating the nondual wisdom of Advaita, Zen, Dzogchen, Shiva tantra, and beyond.

My guests include teachers in these traditions, as well as scholars, therapists, artists, and others who incorporate a nondual perspective into their work.

I’m particularly interested in honoring both Shakti—the dynamic, provocative, unpredictable energy of becoming—and Shiva—the pristine, unchanging, silent ground of being—as equal partners in the dance of nondual reality.

  • Awakened Relationship and the Healing of Trauma (Lynn Marie Lumiere)
    2026/09/22

In this episode, host Stephan Bodian welcomes psychotherapist, author, and spiritual mentor Lynn Marie Lumiere to explore the vital intersection of nondual awakening, intimate relationships, and somatic trauma recovery.

They examine how shifting from an egocentric identity to awakened presence can fundamentally transform human relating. Lynn Marie explains that true "awakened relating" involves recognizing that the ultimate source of love and happiness is located within our own essential being rather than in an external partner, which naturally liberates relationships from the burden of co-dependency and unmet expectations.

Both emphasize that the journey toward full embodiment inevitably requires practitioners to confront unresolved relational and developmental trauma. Ignoring this wounding through abstract spiritual truths or spiritual bypassing often fails when the nervous system remains locked in a state of chronic fight-or-flight or dissociation.

By integrating nondual presence with targeted somatic resourcing and relational therapeutic support, Lynn Marie advises, practitioners can safely regulate their physiology, unpack deeply repressed emotional states, and transition from defensive fragmentation into an integrated, loving, and fully alive human expression.

And Stephan shares from his new book a number of ways that trauma can make awakening and especially spiritual embodiment more complicated—but also provide a profound motivation on the path.

  • After the Fall: Regaining Our Kinship with All Beings
    2026/09/15

In this conversation, Stephan talks with psychologist and author Steve Taylor about the roots of human suffering in a sense of alienation and disconnection from the natural world that began around 6,000 years ago and has led to the primacy of ego-centered behavior in human affairs and the proliferation of narcissism and psychopathy in the social and political sphere. According to Taylor, we experienced a fall from grace around the time of Adam and Eve when we lost the nondual sense of oneness with our environment that many indigenous peoples still consider their natural state. Nowadays, turmoil and trauma are often required, Taylor maintains, to jolt us back into our inherent inseparability, and such awakenings are not as unusual as we tend to believe.

They discuss the differences between indigenous worldviews and modern perspectives, the personal challenges of the awakening journey, and the importance of recognizing our inherent wakefulness. The dialogue emphasizes the value of understanding how disconnection and ego-separateness limit our experience of life and cause us to act in harmful and anti-social ways. The dialogue also delves into the continuum of connection, the social dangers of disconnection, and the role of spiritual authority. Ultimately, they emphasize the altruistic impulse behind spiritual teaching and its role in the journey toward collective evolution.

    Major themes:

    • The experience of ego-separateness defines the modern human emphasis on individualism.
    • By contrast, indigenous peoples have a kin-centric worldview, in which all beings are our relatives.
    • Awakening can occur through trauma or turmoil, leading to a transformed sense of self.
    • Many people experience a shift to a more expanded identity after significant life challenges.
    • The process of awakening often involves the dissolution of psychological attachments.
    • There is a latent, spiritually awakened self in all of us.
    • Trauma can drive individuals to seek deeper understanding and connection and lead to profound spiritual transformation.
    • Awakening is not just about individual experiences but also about collective consciousness.
    • The journey of awakening is unique for each person, often resembling a pathless path. Inner well-being is independent of external factors.
    • Does wakefulness consist of various characteristics that can be cultivated, as Taylor contends in one of his books, or does it just reveal qualities that are already innate?.
    • Disconnection leads to a lack of empathy and may manifest in sociopathic behavior
    • “Psychopathocracy” may occur when disconnected individuals gain power.
    • Autonomy in spiritual understanding is essential for awakening that lasts and transforms our lives.
    • The journey of awakening is a return to our inherent nondual nature.

  • Nondual Yoga and the Energy Body (Billy Doyle)
    2026/08/30

In this episode, host Stephan Bodian and yoga teacher Billy Doyle draw on their training under the late Advaita master Jean Klein to explore how Hatha Yoga and body awareness intersect with Advaita Vedanta.

While conventional yoga often falls into a dualistic self-improvement trap, Klein’s unique “body approach” is intended to actively release the physical contractions that mirror the ego.

By tuning into the energetic "body of light" through non-interpretive listening, a practitioner can shift from conceptual thinking into a global spaciousness that dissolves the artificial boundaries between inside and outside and reveals the true listener behind all listening, the ultimate subject behind all objects.

To demonstrate this visceral portal to our essential nature, Billy guides a practical, seated energy meditation.

The episode concludes with reflections on the profound transmission of silence embodied by their late teacher and readings from Billy’s poetry celebrating the return to our nondual true nature.
