In the first episode of Non-Swimmers, host Emily Edge talks to Cullercoats based writer Peter Mortimer about his book The Last of the Hunters - a stark, vivid account of the six months he spent living and working aboard North Shields fishing boats in the 1980s.

This episode is part of Emily's practice-based research project, The Sea as Threshold: Weaving North East Coastal Narratives through Saori Practice, exploring the sea as a liminal space between life and death through woven textiles.

About our guest: Peter Mortimer is a poet, playwright, journalist, and theatre director based in Cullercoats, and the founder of Iron Press. His books include The Last of the Hunters, Cool for Qat, 100 Days on Holy Island, and Broke Through Britain.

About the host: Emily Edge is a knitwear designer, weaver, and Assistant Professor in Fashion at Northumbria University, whose weaving practice grew from a chance discovery of Finnish textiles in Helsinki into a research project exploring her own complicated connection to the sea.
