This series of conversations with women in African philanthropy was recorded on the sidelines of the African Women Writers retreat that took place at the Wits Rural Facility in Limpopo, South Africa, and hosted by CAPSI’s Adɔyɛ Programme. Adɔyɛ is dedicated to celebrating and amplifying the contributions of African women in philanthropy while creating spaces for dialogue, learning and collaboration.

Nombuso Mathibela is a cultural worker, creative practitioner, and advocate for the transformative power of music and artistic expression. Her work explores the intersections of culture, identity, freedom, and social change, highlighting how music serves as both a form of resistance and a tool for building community, preserving memory, and inspiring collective action.
In her conversation with Masego Madzwamuse on Stories of Learning, Unlearning & Growth, Nombuso Mathibela reflects on the role of culture and music in shaping individual and collective identities. Drawing from her experiences as a cultural worker, she explores how artistic expression contributes to freedom, healing, and social transformation, while examining the lessons that emerge from engaging with culture across generations and communities.
