  • Trusting God After Unimaginable Loss with Courtney Pray Duke
    2026/07/07
Courtney Pray Duke prayed for her husband's safety as he left for a bike ride. Hours later, she was a 29-year-old widow with three young children. In this episode, Courtney shares how she took the next step when grief made it impossible to even read her Bible, what years of wrestling with God's "no" taught her, and the Matthew 9 story behind her memoir, And She Got Up. If your circumstances are contradicting everything you believe about God's goodness right now — this one's for you. • You Don't Have to Be a Prayer Warrior to Have a Prayer Life | Courtney Reisig
    2026/06/30
Prayer is one of those topics that carries a lot of weight — and a lot of guilt. Most of us feel like we should pray more, pray better, pray longer. And yet it remains one of the hardest spiritual disciplines to actually practice. Today I'm sitting down with Courtney Reisig, writer, Bible teacher, and author of the Gospel Coalition booklet Prayer — who opens her booklet with four words I wasn't expecting: "prayer is hard for me."We talk about what it looks like to actually build a prayer life when you're not a natural "prayer warrior," why having a plan for prayer is just as important as having a plan for Bible reading, and how small habits — like a timer, index cards, or praying while you fold laundry — can slowly transform the way you commune with God.Courtney also shares the books and resources that have shaped her own prayer life, and we both share the short, anchor prayers we come back to again and again. If you've ever felt behind in your prayer life, this conversation is for you.Resources & Books Mentioned:Prayer by Courtney Reisig (Gospel Coalition) → https://amzn.to/4wcEURGA Praying Life by Paul E. • Your Kids Are Already Theologians — But Who's Shaping That Theology? | Lauren Groves
    2026/06/23
Today I'm sitting down with Lauren Groves — author of Toddler Theology board book series, kids acquisitions editor at B&H Publishing Group, mom of three, and kids ministry coordinator — and honestly this conversation felt like a deep breath and a gentle nudge all at once. We talk about: what does it actually look like to disciple your kids in the everyday moments of life? Not in a perfectly curated family devotional time (though no shade if that works for you!), but in the car, at the dinner table, at bedtime, and in all the in-between. We also get into: Why your kids are already theologians (and why that's actually good news) Everyday discipleship habits that actually stick — no perfect family devotional time required How to talk to little kids about sin, salvation, and even hell Why church involvement is a non-negotiable spiritual discipline The contentment truth Lauren would tell her 16-year-old self 📚 Resources MentionedToddler Theology Series — https://amzn.to/4e90dNMYou Are a Theologian (Jen Wilkin & JT English) — https://amzn.to/4uCeasuJesus Kids album (Shai Linne) — https://open.spotify.com/album/5WEtr153uNOBZgHJC7QVkYThe Jesus Storybook Bible — https://amzn.to/3QhYNaEThe Biggest Story Bible Storybook (Kevin DeYoung) — https://amzn.to/43Cnq4NKids in the Bible (Caroline Saunders) — https://amzn.to/4ousCBqThe Good News Family Devotional (Michael & Melissa Kruger) — https://amzn.to/4xvJn3eNew City Catechism (free!) — https://newcitycatechism.com 🔗 Connect with Lauren GrovesInstagram: @lauren__grovesSubstack: https://laurengroves.substack.comToddler Theology Series: https://amzn.to/4e90dNM🔗 Connect with HannaWebsite: https://hannaseymour.comInstagram: @hannaeseymourEveryday Spiritual Habits: https://everydayspiritualhabits.com/

  • Your Home Is Not in the Way of Your Calling — It IS Your Calling | Phylicia Masonheimer
    2026/06/16
What does it actually look like to build your theology in the laundry room? At the kitchen sink? In the daily, mundane, never-ending work of home? Phylicia Masonheimer — founder of Every Woman a Theologian and author of Every Home a Foundation — joins me for a brutally honest and convicting conversation. We talk about her secret addiction that started at 12, how it drove her to Christ, why your home is not in the way of your calling, and what quitting social media actually did to her faith and family. In this episode: Why every woman already has a theology — and why yours might be wrong The hidden link between discontentment and unbelief How the Industrial Revolution and Sexual Revolution stole our theology of home Why your home IS your calling — not a distraction from it What Hebrews 13:5 has to do with your contentment Why she walked away from social media — and what she found on the other side Connect with Phylicia: Website & shop: https://phyliciamasonheimer.com Every Home a Foundation: https://amzn.to/4xE3EDZ Every Woman a Theologian: https://amzn.to/49U1eXs Instagram: @phyliciamasonheimer Connect with me: Website: https://hannaseymour.com Instagram: @hannaeseymour Everyday Spiritual Habits: https://everydayspiritualhabits.com Leave a review on Apple Podcasts — it takes 2 minutes and helps more women find this show 🙏

  • A Pen, a Notebook, and One Question: How to Actually Study Your Bible with Glenna Marshall
    2026/06/09
I brought back one of your favorite guests — Glenna Marshall. You may remember her from our conversation earlier this year on memorizing scripture (if you missed that one, go back and listen — it is SO good). Today, Glenna and I are talking about how to move from simply reading the Bible to actually studying it. Glenna gives us a simple, doable framework to start tomorrow — no fancy tools required. Just a book of the Bible, a notebook, and one question. Plus, she shares the deeply personal story of how a faith crisis during years of infertility drove her to open her Bible to Isaiah, write that question at the top of a spiral notebook, and never look back. It changed everything for her. I think it just might change something for you too. • The World Is Discipling You. Do You Even Know It? | Elizabeth Woodson
    2026/06/02
"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think." — Romans 12:2 NLT You are being discipled right now. The only question is — by who? That's what my pastor says from the pulpit all the time, and it's the heart of my conversation today with Elizabeth Woodson. Elizabeth is a Bible teacher, DTS graduate, author of Habits of Resistance: 7 Ways You're Being Formed by Culture and Gospel Practices to Help You Push Back, and host of the Shalomies podcast. And she came ready to lovingly step on all of our toes. In her book, Elizabeth identifies seven false gospels we don't even realize we're living by — peace through control, joy through over-consumption, identity through achievement — and pairs each one with a time-tested spiritual habit to help us push back. We go deep on why confession is the most transformational and most neglected discipline in our corner of the church (and yes, I confess that I'm not practicing it either), why biblical shalom is what we're actually longing for when we say "I just want a good life," and how everyday faithfulness in ordinary moments is what actually forms our kids and transforms our communities. Elizabeth's story is one of those beautiful God-redirect testimonies — she went from dressing up as a businesswoman for Halloween with a briefcase to leaving her accounting career after falling in love with teaching Sunday school in Chicago. And her answer to my "no matter what" question at the end might be the best one I've gotten yet. If you've been checking the boxes — reading your Bible, going to church, serving — but something still feels off, this episode will help you see what's really forming you. And what to do about it. No matter what, Jesus is better. 🔗 LINKS & RESOURCES: 📖 Habits of Resistance by Elizabeth Woodson — https://amzn.to/4earQpu 📖 Everyday Spiritual Habits by Hanna Seymour — https://everydayspiritualhabits.com/ 🌐 Elizabeth Woodson — https://www.elizabethwoodson.net 🎙️ Shalomies Podcast — https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/shalomies-with-elizabeth-woodson-and-yana-jenay-conner/id1847792838 📲 CONNECT WITH ELIZABETH: Instagram — https://instagram.com/elizabethwoodson 📲 CONNECT WITH HANNA: Website — https://hannaseymour.com Instagram — https://instagram.com/hannaeseymour

  • The Only Weapon You Have — and You're Not Using It | Natalie Abbott
    2026/05/26
What are you telling yourself at 2 AM when your heart is racing and the lies are loud? Natalie Abbott — co-founder of Dwell Differently and co-author of Dwell Differently: Overcome Negative Thinking with the Simple Practice of Memorizing God's Truth — joins me to talk about the spiritual discipline of Bible memorization. But this isn't a guilt trip about doing more. It's an invitation to slow down and let one verse at a time transform the way you think. Natalie shares her incredible testimony of going from angry death poetry and grunge-era darkness to encountering the God of the universe through reading the Bible as a college student — and how she actually started memorizing Psalms before she even believed they were true. We talk about why memorized scripture is the weapon we need when the enemy accuses us at 2 AM, and how even just meditating on "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing" for a single day can begin to rewire your thought life. If you've ever felt like scripture memorization is for people with better brains, more discipline, or more time — this one's for you. It's easier than you think. And there's no downside. No matter what, God's Word in you will change you for the better.
