  • Episode 14 — January 27, 2008: South Carolina, the five-man Republican field, and Ron Paul's four-point plan
    2026/10/27

No Agenda - Revisited: Episode 14 re-reviews No Agenda from Sunday, January 27, 2008 — a show recorded a day late, with Adam in a hotel room and John at home in rainy Northern California, nine days before Super Tuesday. Each claim is checked twice: against what was known at the time, and against what we know now.• John — Yerba Buena Island used to be called Goat Island, officially, from 1895 to 1931. Correct.• One of the hosts — Verbatim's gold archival discs, made for 100 years of archiving: the product is real, the century is the maker's promise. Mixed.• John — Obama won the South Carolina primary the day before, with 55.4 percent. Correct.• John — the prediction: a Hillary-Obama ticket, "totally unelectable," then McCain with Romney: Obama won it all instead, with Biden, 365 to 173. Incorrect.• Adam — Ron Paul came in second somewhere: Nevada, January 19, 2008, ahead of McCain. Correct.• Adam — the February 5th money bomb would raise five million: no five-million day ever came. Incorrect.• John — only five left in the Republican race: Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee, McCain, and Paul. Correct.• John — Huckabee's plan to drop the income tax for a consumption tax: the FairTax, his signature proposal. Correct.• Adam — Belgium's VAT is 21 percent. Correct.• John — Ron Paul's four-point plan, Fed openness and televised meetings plus Sarbanes-Oxley repeal, quoted word for word. Correct.• John — Sarbanes-Oxley is named after two men in Congress: Senator Sarbanes and Representative Oxley. Correct.• Adam — Neelie Kroes and her husband's scandal: his Rotterdam expenses affair was real, but she was never accused. Mixed.• Adam — the EU busting cartels, paraffin wax included: the 676-million-euro paraffin bust landed nine months later. • Episode 13 — January 19, 2008: Turned on by Esther Dyson, Gordon Brown in China, and the Heathrow 777
    2026/10/25

No Agenda - Revisited: Episode 13 re-reviews No Agenda from January 19, 2008 — the "Turned on by Esther Dyson" show, with Adam reading the weekend Financial Times in the UK and John reading from a notebook he can barely decipher. Each claim is checked twice: against what was known at the time, and against what we know now.• Adam — Gordon Brown's China visit: the Beijing trip and the welcome for Chinese investment were real, but Northern Rock was nationalised weeks later, not bought. Mixed.• Adam — the non-dom £30,000 annual charge to keep the remittance basis from April 2008. Correct.• Adam — Americans are taxed on capital gains wherever in the world they arise. Correct.• John — Ireland's artist deal: a real tax exemption since 1969, but not citizenship and not freedom from all tax. Mixed.• Adam — the Trans-Australian Railway holds the world's longest straight stretch of track, 478 km across the Nullarbor. Correct.• One of the hosts — Neanderthals were redheads: some were, per the October 2007 Science paper, but pigmentation varied. Mixed.• One of the hosts — the 787 Dreamliner Wi-Fi hack fear: the FAA's January 2008 special conditions were real, but no passenger ever hacked a 787's flight controls. Mixed.• Adam — the Heathrow 777 crash: engines that would not answer on final approach, caused by ice in the fuel. Correct.• Adam — the 777 as the only large fly-by-wire aircraft: Boeing's first, but the A320 came first and the A340 is fly-by-wire too, as John corrected on air. Mixed.• Adam — Esther Dyson's father Freeman, the famous physicist. Correct.• Adam — the Financial Times motto, "Without Fear and Without Favor." Correct.• Adam — hackers cutting power to whole countries: the CIA analyst really said it in January 2008, but the details were never confirmed. • Episode 12 — January 12, 2008: Lawsuit Crazy, the Pinball Hall of Fame, and the Electric Car
    2026/10/24

No Agenda - Revisited: Episode 12 re-reviews No Agenda from January 12, 2008 — the "Lawsuit Crazy" show, with Adam in sunny England and John back from CES in Las Vegas. Each claim is checked twice: against what was known at the time, and against what we know now.

    • John — the Las Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame: Tim Arnold's museum, ~200 machines on the floor, 25-cent play, proceeds to charity. Correct.

    • John — the Tesla Roadster: a Lotus body, 0–60 in under four seconds, and in January 2008 nobody had received one yet — the first delivery came three weeks later. Correct.

    • Adam — GM's EV1 was leased, never sold, then taken back and crushed. Correct.

    • Adam — the battery patent blockade: a real NiMH patent choke point under Chevron/Cobasys, but narrower than the blanket version — lithium-ion sidestepped it. Mixed.

    • Adam — France: the 35-hour week is real law, but "all of August off" is culture, not statute. Mixed.

    • John and Adam — Sarkozy's Hungarian father and his new romance with Carla Bruni: both right, and the wedding came three weeks after the show. Correct.

    • Adam — his Creative Commons lawsuit: the first CC case anywhere, Amsterdam 2006, and his account matches the judgment. Correct.

    • Adam — the MTV.com fight: sued in 1994, settled out of court, neither party commenting. Correct.

    • John — Mark Burnett "invented" reality TV: he popularized it, but Survivor came from Charlie Parsons and the genre predates him. Mixed.

    • Adam — The Osbournes began in 2002, self-corrected on air from 2003. Correct.

    • Adam — the Celebrity Big Brother race row went all the way to Parliament, with a record 44,500 Ofcom complaints. Correct.

    • John — August Dvorak, University of Washington, keyboard patented in the mid-1930s. Correct.

    • John — hydrogen cars: 10,000 psi tanks, still under 300 miles of range. Correct.

  • Episode 11 — January 4, 2008: The RIAA Call, the Database Theory, and the Anti-Missile Airliner
    2026/10/23

No Agenda - Revisited: Episode 11 re-reviews No Agenda from January 4, 2008 — the first show of 2008, with Adam recovering from norovirus in England and John in rainy Northern California. Each claim is checked twice: against what was known at the time, and against what we know now.• Adam — the UK norovirus outbreak was real and the worst in five years, but the "two million infected" figure was disavowed by the Health Protection Agency itself (600,000–1,000,000 was its estimate). Mixed.• John — the Queen Mary 2 sailing with ~50 flu cases: no record found; the likely memory is the QE2's outbreak a year earlier. Unverified.• Adam — the theory that drug companies seed flu season to sell cures: no evidence then or since, and John pushed back on air. Unverified.• John — "four vaccines in a flu shot": the 2007–08 shot was trivalent — three strains, not four. Incorrect.• John — the Washington Post's RIAA story omitted "in a shared folder" from the lawyer's quote. The Post corrected itself the very next day. Correct.• Adam — the Audio Home Recording Act does not cover computer hard drives. Correct, and still the law.• Adam — the TSA SPOT numbers (~70,000 referrals, 600–700 arrests) matched the reporting; the GAO later found the programme scientifically unvalidated, with zero terrorism arrests. Correct.• John — anti-missile lasers on three American Airlines jets: the DHS test was real; fleet-wide deployment never happened. Correct.• Adam — the TWA Flight 800 fuel-tank explosion matches the NTSB's official finding. Correct.• Adam — al-Qaeda as a CIA "database" of mujahideen: a serious 2005 claim, but two decades of evidence show no CIA contact with bin Laden; aid ran through Pakistan's ISI. Incorrect.• John — laptops overtaking desktops as the industry's big trend: right early; U.S. retail notebooks passed desktops in 2005. • Episode 10 — December 29, 2007: The Bhutto Assassination, the Park Sting, and Barron Hilton's Fortune.
    2026/10/23

    No Agenda Episode 10 (December 29, 2007) — checked against 2007 and today's record.

    • Adam — The assassination "has CIA written all over it" (John pushes back). Unverified — speculation without evidence. Pakistan blamed Baitullah Mehsud and al-Qaeda militants; CIA chief Hayden (January 2008) assessed Mehsud's network responsible; the UN commission (2010) criticised the investigation, naming no killers.

    • Adam — The Karachi attempt, "a month ago," killed 160. Mixed: it was October 18, 2007 (~10 weeks before); the toll is 139 killed, ~450 injured; early reports ran higher.

    • John — Militants deny it; aides cry cover-up over the sunroof-lever account. Mixed: accurate reporting of a live dispute — no autopsy. Scotland Yard (February 2008) concluded the blast drove her head into the vehicle, broadly the government's account; the UN (2010) faulted the investigation.

    • John — Apple rumour firmed up: a flash-based, tablet-like device with "light pen" tech for Macworld. Mixed: unverifiable, single-source; the MacBook Air (January 15, 2008) delivered thin/light, SSD option — no tablet, no pen.

    • John — Columbus: a naked officer decoy; a firefighter who flirted with her, arrested and convicted. Mixed: the case was real (December 28, 2007) — a firefighter (May 30, 2007), convicted ($250 fine, a year's probation). Karla Snedeker was a civilian topless sunbather, not an officer; affirmed June 26, 2008.

    • John — Lucky Bag: planted subway bags; pickup = arrest; "over 300" arrested. Mixed: programme and 10-day rule real; documented 2006 arrests ~220, "over 300" unconfirmed. Vindicated: a judge dismissed a 2006 case as "unfair" (People v. Arroyo); a 2014 settlement forced revised guidelines.

    • John — "Nine thousand unsolved murders in New York." Correct: it comes from a ~9,000-name list back to 1985, from NYPD records for The Restless Sleep (2005) — a backlog, not one year.

    • John — "By and large": nautical origin; earliest use 1866; an 1890 glossary: "rustic." Mixed: the origin is right (John invited corrections) — but Bourne used it in 1578; the OED's first citation is Sturmy (1669, "by and learge").

    • Adam — BAA walkouts; Virgin to strike, "paid about 35% less" than rivals. Mixed: both check out (Virgin strikes: January 9–10 and 16–17, 2008); 35% was union framing. Neither happened — BAA's called off; Virgin took a two-year deal (4.8%, then inflation-linked), January 7, 2008.

    • John — Letterman "cut a deal with the writers guild," returns ~January 2, and paid staff during the shutdown. Correct throughout: his company signed the first interim WGA agreement, announced December 28, 2007; Letterman returned January 2, 2008, fully staffed.

    • Adam — Ron Paul "has delivered over four thousand children." Correct: "more than 4,000 babies" is the documented figure (congressional biography; CNN Fast Facts).

    • John (relayed; both hosts sceptical) — A big announcement is coming; Bush declares martial law, stays in power. Incorrect — it failed: no announcement, no martial law; power passed to Obama on January 20, 2009. The hosts' scepticism is credited.

    • Adam — Barron Hilton pledged 97% of his fortune; the press's $1.7B math is off. Correct: announced December 25–26, 2007 — ~97% to the Hilton Foundation, including the $1.2B unitrust; the foundation put his net worth at $2.3B (vindicating Adam); fulfilled at his death (September 2019).

    • Adam — Prediction: the coverage makes Paris Hilton "crash and burn." Incorrect: no crash; her career (fragrances: billions in product) and profile grew for decades.

    Episode score: 14 claims — 4 correct · 7 mixed · 2 incorrect · 1 unverified. Series running total: 110 — 43 correct · 41 mixed · 20 incorrect · 8 unverified.

  • Episode 9 — December 22, 2007: The FISA Fight, the $6 Million Money Bomb, and Two Bets That Missed.
    2026/10/23

This episode revisits No Agenda Episode 9 (December 22, 2007) — every claim checked against 2007 knowledge and today's record.

    • Adam — Brill founded Clear after Brill's Content. Correct: founded 2003; the magazine ceased publication in 2001. The original Clear shut down June 22, 2009; the name and lanes returned under new ownership.

    • Adam and John — Clear's mechanics: retinal scan and fingerprints; "the targeted traveler program." Mixed: right in shape — but the scan was iris, not retinal, and the programme's name was Registered Traveler.

    • Adam (John concurs) — WTC 7 questions: collapse timing, "pull it," thermite. Mixed: open at the time (NIST unreported; hosts relay questions only). NIST's report (November 2008): office fires, via thermal expansion at Column 79, caused the collapse; no explosives or fuel oil; no surviving evidence for thermite claims.

    • Adam — Pilots for 9/11 Truth: NTSB data puts Flight 77 at 480 ft at "impact" — so it overflew the Pentagon. Incorrect: the data was genuine, but the group's March 2007 release concedes the recording "stops at least one second prior to… impact time"; 480 ft is pressure altitude at the last instant of a 500+ mph descent. Physical evidence: five downed light poles, wreckage, identified remains.

    • John — The 1987 repeal of the "equal time law" launched Limbaugh. Correct in substance: the FCC repealed the Fairness Doctrine in August 1987; Limbaugh went national in 1988 (56 stations). The slip is vocabulary: "equal time" (Section 315) is a separate rule, still in force.

    • John — Prediction: the next president will be a Republican — "absolutely, there's no question about it." Incorrect: Obama won in 2008 with 365 electoral votes.

    • John — Prediction: the Democratic ticket will be "Hillary–Obama." Incorrect: it was Obama–Biden, which won; Clinton became Secretary of State. John hedged it: "I will probably be proven wrong."

    • Adam — Ron Paul's money bomb raised "six million dollars on the 16th of December." Correct: the December 16, 2007 "Tea Party" money bomb raised ~$6.0–6.6M from 58,407 contributors in one day — then the largest one-day campaign haul.

    • Adam — Dodd's filibuster stopped the FISA bill. Correct: Reid withdrew the bill December 17, 2007, over Dodd's filibuster on telecom immunity. One slip: the Protect America Act ran to February 2008, not a week or so.

    • Adam — The FISA bill would pardon the telecoms "going back five years" for warrantless-surveillance cooperation. Correct on retroactive immunity; it became law in the FISA Amendments Act (Title II), signed July 10, 2008.

    • John — Kissinger BBC quotation: military victory in Iraq is not possible. Correct, essentially verbatim — BBC interview broadcast November 19, 2006. A year old, not recent; it did get U.S. play.

    • Adam — A Saudi sovereign fund: "a trillion dollars." Mixed: the announcement was days old (December 2007; SAMA's foreign assets were ~$320B), but $1 trillion tops anything reported; the fund was no lending facility for U.S. banks and never launched in that form. The instinct was the season's story (ADIA put $7.5B into Citigroup in November 2007).

    • John and Adam — Oil: "a hundred dollars a barrel" (John) vs "96 or something" (Adam). Mixed: not yet: WTI was in the low-to-mid $90s (high $99.29 on November 21, 2007), so Adam was closer; the first $100 print came January 2, 2008.

    • John — The Post item: the FBI's $1 billion biometric database. Correct: the Post's A01 story (December 22, 2007). The NGI contract went to Lockheed Martin (February 2008), up to $1B over ten years.

    Episode score: 14 claims — 7 correct · 4 mixed · 3 incorrect · 0 unverified. Series running total: 96 — 39 correct · 34 mixed · 18 incorrect · 7 unverified.

  • Episode 8 — December 15, 2007: The McCain Dark Horse, the Central Banks, and the Ron Paul Blimp.
    2026/10/23

This episode revisits No Agenda Episode 8, originally aired Saturday, December 15, 2007. Every claim is checked twice: against what was known in 2007, and against what we know now.

    • Adam — Queen Mary 2 is "three times as big as the QE2, which was twice as big as the Titanic." Mixed: the chain multiplies the wrong way — QM2 (≈149,215 GT) is 2.1× QE2 (70,327 GT); QE2 1.5× Titanic (46,328 GRT); the "three times" belongs at the end (QM2 ≈3.2× Titanic).

    • Adam — QM2 is too wide for the Panama Canal and routes around Cape Horn. Correct: her 135-ft beam exceeds the ~106-ft Panamax lock limit. Still true — larger locks opened in 2016, but QM2 still does not transit (air draft vs the Bridge of the Americas).

    • Adam — The Automated Targeting System: traveller risk score, 40-year records, outside the Privacy Act, no access or redress. Mixed: substantially right — revealed November 2006; 40-year retention and no traveller access confirmed by AP. Older than "about a year" — late-1990s roots; the Privacy Act exemption was finalized February 3, 2010.

    • Adam — Central banks acted jointly for the first time with an auction of "$10 billion in total"; Northern Rock bailed out with £25 billion. Mixed: mechanics right — five central banks coordinated on December 12, 2007, the first such move since after 9/11; the Term Auction Facility was designed to defeat borrowing stigma; swap lines ECB $20B / SNB $4B; Northern Rock borrowed ~£25B (£26.9B by December 31). But the December TAF auctions were $20B each — $40B total, 4× his figure.

    • John — Blog headline: "Mitt Romney's VC firm to buy Clear Channel." Mixed: the buyers were Bain Capital and Thomas H. Lee Partners; the deal was announced November 16, 2006 ($18.7B; $26.7B with debt). Romney co-founded Bain (1984) but left operationally in early 1999. It closed July 2008; Clear Channel became iHeartMedia (bankruptcy 2018).

    • John — Prediction: McCain is the dark horse who comes through the long race. Correct — a good read when most coverage had written him off: McCain won the 2008 Republican nomination.

    • Adam — "The Ron Paul blimp is now flying." Correct: the 200-ft supporter-funded blimp launched December 10, 2007 from Elizabeth City, NC, and was airborne and covered by December 14.

    • John — Prediction: Ron Paul will be derailed by "the powers that be" with dirt. Incorrect: no dirt ever surfaced; Paul faded on votes, won no primaries, and suspended his campaign in June 2008. Adam's on-air pushback ("There's no dirt on this guy") aged better.

    • John — Ross Perot quit in 1992 over "black ops" threats to his family (John flags it himself: "probably bull"). Mixed: the sequence is scrambled — Perot withdrew July 16, 1992 saying he didn't want the House to decide; the doctored-photo plot claim came after he re-entered (October 1, 1992); the FBI found no evidence. Perot finished with 18.9% of the vote.

    • Adam — UK pubs can now stay open 24 hours; the law changed "over a year ago." Correct: the Licensing Act 2003 took effect November 24, 2005 (England & Wales); Adam's own footnote: only ~1,121 premises took 24-hour licences, mostly supermarkets and shops.

    • John — Apple rumour from an unnamed ex-insider: something thin, plus a pen-based Newton-patent tablet. Mixed: unverifiable as sourced; the "thin" half landed January 15, 2008 (MacBook Air, multi-touch, no pen); the iPad (2010) was finger-driven; Apple Pencil arrived in 2015.

    Episode score: 11 claims checked — 4 correct · 6 mixed · 1 incorrect · 0 unverified. Series running total: 82 claims — 32 correct · 30 mixed · 15 incorrect · 7 unverified.

  • Episode 7 — December 7, 2007: The Eisenhower Letter, the 409-to-2 Vote, and the Led Zeppelin Reunion.
    2026/10/23

This episode revisits No Agenda Episode 7, originally aired Friday, December 7, 2007. Every claim is checked twice: against what was known in 2007, and against what we know now.

    • John — The man in the eHarmony commercials is "not the CEO… just some phony guy." Mixed: the man is founder Dr. Neil Clark Warren — no phony — but he had stepped down as CEO in 2007 (Greg Waldorf was CEO), so the title point was right that week. Warren returned as CEO in 2012–2016 and remained the company's face.

    • Adam — A Led Zeppelin one-off reunion concert that Monday in London, an Ahmet Ertegun tribute — and he has an invitation. Correct on the event: December 10, 2007 at the O2 Arena, Zeppelin's first full concert in ~27 years, Jason Bonham on drums; 20 million ticket requests for ~18,000 seats (a Guinness record); released as Celebration Day in 2012. The invitation itself is personal and unverifiable.

    • John — Reading aloud an Eisenhower quotation dated 1954: any party that tried to abolish Social Security — "Their number is negligible and they are stupid." Correct: genuine and essentially verbatim, from Eisenhower's private letter to his brother Edgar, November 8, 1954; John dates and places it correctly.

    • Adam (John assists) — The Story of Stuff: a new online film; post-WWII economist Victor Lebow designed the consumption economy; planned vs perceived obsolescence; "only 1% actually is recycled." Mixed: a faithful description of Annie Leonard's film, released online days earlier — except the film's figure is 99% of material throughput trashed within six months (1% still in use), not "recycled"; and that 99% figure was itself an advocacy number, never established as a measured statistic.

    • Adam and John — H.R. 1955 follow-up: Adam reads the "violent radicalization" definition; the hosts warn dissent could be swept in. Correct on the facts: the words read are the bill's actual words, and the 404 House votes were real (Episode 1). The feared application never arose — the bill died in the Senate and never became law.

    • John — The president's approval is "under 30%"; Congress is "around 10%." Mixed: direction right — both were at or near historic lows, Congress far worse — but the figures were the darkest available: Gallup that season had the president in the low 30s (29% in one July 2007 reading) and Congress in the high teens.

    • John and Adam — The SAFE Act passed the House 409–2, and one of the two no votes is Ron Paul (John's bet, confirmed by Adam on air). Correct in every particular: H.R. 3791 passed December 5, 2007, 409–2 (roll call 1131); the only no votes were Ron Paul and Paul Broun.

    • John — The SAFE Act's scope, as read from the post: open Wi-Fi providers must report illegal images, including obscene cartoons, or face fines up to $300,000; social networks, registrars, ISPs and e-mail providers swept in. Mixed: substantially accurate as CNET's reading — reports to NCMEC; fines of $150,000 per image per day (first offense), $300,000 repeat — though the duty attached on actual knowledge and the bill imposed no duty to monitor. It died in the Senate; a narrower reporting law came with the PROTECT Our Children Act of 2008.

    Episode score: 8 claims checked — 4 correct · 4 mixed · 0 incorrect · 0 unverified. Series running total: 71 claims — 28 correct · 24 mixed · 14 incorrect · 7 unverified.
