June 13, 1977: on the first night of camp at Camp Scott, three young Girl Scouts—Lori Lee Farmer (8), Michele Heather Guse (9), and Doris Denise Milner (10)—were found dead near a trail to the showers. A disturbing warning note discovered weeks earlier was treated as a prank, and the tent where the girls slept was unusually isolated.
Investigators focused on escapee Gene Leroy Hart, but he was acquitted at trial and later died in custody. Modern DNA testing in 2022 suggested a link but was too degraded to be definitive. The case remains officially unsolved, and the camp never reopened, leaving a lasting wound on the community and the families who lost three children.
