Nick Smith Jr., the 27th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, is taking his game overseas after being waived by Charlotte and cut loose by the Lakers. Now signed to a one-year deal with Real Madrid, the 22-year-old guard is poised to lead the Spanish club’s backcourt while rebuilding his NBA stock. Once showing promise with strong shooting and consistent scoring in Charlotte, Smith’s efficiency dipped in his second season — but his time with LA saw slight improvements. With European basketball offering elite competition and a global stage, Smith aims to prove he’s still got NBA potential — and Real Madrid may be just the platform to make that case.
