Writer, director, and producer Nick Davis joins Our City Tonight for an extended conversation about his documentary You Had To Be There, which looks back at the remarkable 1972 Toronto production of Godspell and the creative community that emerged from it. That production brought together performers who would go on to help shape an extraordinary era in North American comedy, with connections to Second City, SCTV, and Saturday Night Live. Davis talks about revisiting this pivotal moment more than five decades later, the people and circumstances that made the Toronto production so significant, and why its influence continues to resonate in comedy and popular culture. Watch the shorter video version of this conversation on the Our City Tonight YouTube channel. Our City Tonight features conversations about arts, entertainment, film, television, music, books, food, and culture - and the people behind the stories.
