I Don't Want to Join Another Bloody Walking Club

    "I'd love to do that."

    "That looks great."

    "We should definitely go."

    Sound familiar?

Because there's loads of things to do once you're over 40. Restaurants, bars, gigs, holidays, days out, wellness, activities, new places to explore...

The problem isn't always finding something to do.

It's finding someone to do it with.

In this episode, Gem talks about why making friends and building a social life after 40 doesn't necessarily mean joining another club, taking up another hobby or filling your diary with organised activities.

Sometimes you don't want a new hobby.

    You just want more life.

More people. More experiences. More reasons to get out of the house. More nights where you actually have something to look forward to.

We're talking about how friendships change as we get older, why we're all terrible at actually making plans, the fear of turning up somewhere when you don't know anyone, and why meeting new people doesn't have to mean replacing the friends you've already got.

Because you can love your existing friends and still want more people in your life.

You can be happy and still want more.

And you don't need to wait for a massive life change before you start doing things differently.

Sometimes you just need to stop waiting for somebody else to make the plan.

    This week's challenge

Think of one thing you've been saying:

    "I'd love to do that."

But you haven't because you haven't got anyone to go with.

    Book it.

    Invite someone.

    Or go anyway.

Because you never know who you're going to meet.

And you never know what can come from one yes.

  • Why Have We All Become So Bloody Busy?

Why Have We All Become So Bloody Busy?

    "I'm so busy."

    "It's been manic."

    "I haven't got a minute."

    Sound familiar?

Life after 40 can feel like one massive list of things that need doing. Work, family, kids, parents, appointments, errands, WhatsApp groups... and somehow the things we actually want to do keep getting pushed to the bottom of the list.

In this episode, Gem asks whether we're genuinely too busy — or whether we've simply forgotten to make time for the things that make life enjoyable.

Because there's a difference between managing your life and actually enjoying it.

We're talking about packed diaries, constantly being needed, feeling guilty about doing things for yourself, friendships that never quite make it out of the "we must meet up" stage, and why sometimes you just need to put the bloody thing in the diary.

Because the washing will still be there.

    The emails can wait.

And that WhatsApp group definitely doesn't need your attention.

    This week's challenge

Look at your diary for the next month.

What's actually in there that you're looking forward to?

If the answer is "not much"...

    Change it.

Put something in the diary that's just for you.

Something fun. Something social. Something that gets you out of the house.

Because we're not trying to be busy.

    We're trying to live.

  • Divorce Doesn't Just Change Your Relationship — It Changes Your Social Life
    2026/09/07
    OFFLINE — Episode 4
Divorce Doesn't Just Change Your Relationship — It Changes Your Social Life

Everyone talks about the relationship ending.

The house. The finances. The kids. The dating.

But what about your social life?

Divorce can completely change who you spend time with, where you go, who you get invited out with and even how you see yourself.

Suddenly, the couple friends might not feel like your friends anymore. Holidays look different. Dinner parties feel different. And you can find yourself wondering:

"Right... who the fuck am I going out with now?"

In this episode, Gem talks about the less-discussed social side of divorce — losing friendships, finding new ones, rebuilding your confidence and learning to create a life that actually belongs to you.

Because rebuilding doesn't necessarily mean finding another relationship.

    Maybe it's finding your people.

    Maybe it's getting out more.

Maybe it's travelling, trying something new, having a laugh and making plans that don't involve anyone else's approval.

And maybe the goal isn't to recreate the life you had before.

Maybe it's to build something that works for who you are now.

  • The Kids Don’t Need Me Like They Used To… Now What?
    2026/09/07
    OFFLINE — Episode 3
The Kids Don't Need Me Like They Used To... Now What?

    They still need you.

    Just... differently.

And after years of school runs, packed lunches, lifts, clubs, homework, sports days, WhatsApp groups and basically organising everyone else's lives, there's a strange moment when the kids start becoming independent and you suddenly have a bit more time.

    And you're left thinking:

"Right... what the fuck do I do now?"

In this episode, Gem talks about the weird mix of freedom, guilt, relief and uncertainty that can come when your children grow up.

Because being needed less can feel brilliant — and a little bit heartbreaking.

It's also a chance to start asking yourself some questions:

    What do I actually want?

    What makes me happy?

Who do I want to spend my time with?

What have I been putting off?

And what would I do if I wasn't constantly thinking about everyone else?

You don't need to reinvent yourself.

You might just need to start finding the bits of yourself that have been buried underneath everybody else's needs for the last 15 years.

And maybe this is the time to start putting a bit more you back into your life.

  • I’m Not Lonely. I Just Want More People in My Life
    2026/09/07
    OFFLINE — Episode 2
I'm Not Lonely. I Just Want More People in My Life.

You can have a partner. Kids. A career. A house. Holidays. Good friends.

    And still think...

I'd quite like some more people in my life.

In this episode, Gem talks about the difference between being lonely and simply wanting a bigger, more active social life — and why making friends after 40 can feel surprisingly bloody difficult.

    Because life changes.

    Friendships change.

    People get busy.

    The kids grow up.

    Relationships change.

    Work changes.

And before you know it, your social life has quietly got smaller.

    Not necessarily because you're lonely.

    Sometimes you're just under-socialised.

Gem chats about why we're so connected online but can still struggle to find someone to have a drink with, why we're all guilty of saying "we must sort something out" and then never actually doing it, and why sometimes you've just got to get off your arse and make the plan.

Because you don't need hundreds of friends.

    You just need your people.

And sometimes finding them starts with one simple thing:

    Saying yes.

  • Why the F**k Is Making Friends After 40 So Hard?
    2026/09/07
    OFFLINE — Episode 1
Why the F**k Is Making Friends After 40 So Hard?

Making friends when you're 40+ shouldn't be this bloody difficult.

    But life happens.

Kids grow up. Work takes over. Friendships change. People move. Relationships end. Everyone gets busy. And suddenly you realise that although you're not necessarily lonely, you'd actually quite like to have a few more people in your life.

Someone to go for a drink with.

Someone to try something new with.

Someone to message on a Thursday and say, "Fancy doing something Friday?"

In this first episode of OFFLINE, Gem talks about why social life can get harder as we get older, why there's absolutely nothing embarrassing about wanting to meet new people, and why your 40s, 50s and beyond can actually be one of the best bits of your life.

    No reinvention required.

    No cheesy life coaching.

Just get your coat, make a plan and get out there.
