Full story: WHO Declares Hantavirus Outbreak Over, Thanks Spain for ‘Incredible Solidarity’ on Outbreak News Today
The World Health Organization has declared the hantavirus outbreak linked to the MV Hondius cruise ship officially over. WHO said the final contact of a person exposed to the virus completed quarantine, tested negative and returned home, with no further cases reported since May 25. The outbreak involved 13 cases, including three deaths, and more than 650 contacts were followed up by health authorities in 33 countries and territories. In this brief update, we look at the outbreak timeline, the international response and WHO’s thanks to Spain for its “incredible solidarity” in supporting the safe disembarkation and repatriation of passengers and crew in Tenerife.
