Jeroboam didn’t want to submit to God—he wanted control. So he made his own gods, ones that wouldn’t challenge his pride or demand surrender. That same temptation is alive today. I have to ask myself regularly: am I following God, or am I reshaping Him to fit my comfort? Pride and selfishness are behind so many of our struggles, and until we let go, we’ll never fully walk in truth.

In this final message of our “Strongholds” series, I share what we can learn from King Jeroboam—a leader who let pride dominate his heart. As I studied his story, I saw how easily pride disguises itself as power, control, comfort, and the need for acceptance. But at the root, it’s still pride.

I didn’t just see Jeroboam in this story—I saw myself. Maybe you will too.
