We explore the catastrophic Great Kosi Project and the Saptakoshi High Dam, tracing how modern engineering attempts to tame one of Asia’s most volatile rivers have reshaped Nepal’s southern Terai region. This episode moves beyond ancient dynasties to examine the 1954 breach that turned fertile farmland into a permanent lake, displacing hundreds of thousands and altering the course of the Mahakali. We look at the political tensions between Kathmandu and Patna over water rights, the ecological cost of embankments that trap sediment, and the ongoing struggle of communities like Biratnagar who live in the shadow of these massive concrete structures. From the colonial-era surveys to contemporary climate challenges, we uncover how the 'Sorrow of Bihar' became a shared tragedy of geography and governance, revealing the fragile balance between human ambition and the Himalayas’ relentless power. #NepalHistory #KosiRiver #GreatKosiProject #SaptakoshiHighDam #TeraiRegion #Biratnagar #HimalayanGeography #SouthAsiaHistory #WaterManagement #FloodDisasters #IndoNepalRelations #MeheliGhat #EastIndiaCompany #BritishSurvey #ModernNepal #ClimateChange #Sedimentation #FexingoHistory Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
