And we're back! Today we have a conversation with Dr. Ryan Booth about the 1858 Battle of Pine Creek. Famously, this battle was lost by then-Major Edward Steptoe, who was defeated by the Native American tribes on the Palouse. We discuss the state of relations between Native Americans, white settlers, and the US Army during the 1850s, the Battle of Pine Creek, and the ensuing campaign of retribution by Colonel George Wright.

We also discuss how the history of this conflict was viewed in the decades following the Indian wars of the mid-19th century, and how those views have changed in the recent past.
