As a spine surgeon, I see people who are extremely careful about the wrong things for their back. They worry about mattresses, posture, and sitting perfectly straight, while missing the habits that actually matter. Mistake number five is the one almost everyone overlooks.

In this video, I'm going to walk you through five everyday mistakes that quietly harm your spine, why each one matters, and what to do instead.

    TIMESTAMPS
0:00 5 Everyday Mistakes That Can Harm Your Spine
0:38 Mistake 1, waiting until your back forces you to move
2:01 Mistake 2, cramming a week of activity into one Saturday
4:15 Mistake 3, ignoring the I should probably stop moment
5:50 Why rushing makes back injuries more likely
6:40 Mistake 4, treating your back like it's broken after a flare up
7:30 Why complete rest can make stiffness worse
8:30 Mistake 5, waiting for unbearable pain while losing function
9:10 Warning signs that mean it is time to get checked
9:50 What to actually change starting today

    QUESTIONS ANSWERED
What is the biggest everyday mistake that hurts your back?
Sitting too long without moving, going from inactive all week to doing everything on one weekend day, and ignoring fatigue signals are the most common everyday mistakes. These habits matter far more than posture or mattress choice.

Should you rest completely after a back flare up?
No, complete rest is usually not recommended for routine back flare ups because prolonged inactivity makes muscles weaker and stiffer. Gentle movement, like short walks and changing positions, helps the back recover faster than staying still.

When is back pain a sign of something more serious?
Back pain becomes more concerning when it comes with weakness, numbness, a dragging foot, dropped objects, or changes in bowel or bladder control. These functional changes matter more than pain intensity and should be evaluated promptly.

  • Numbness or Weakness in Your Hands? Check Your Neck
    2026/10/15

📌 Schedule a consultation or second opinion with Dr. Kibuule's team at https://www.myposhcare.com/

If your fingers keep going numb or your grip suddenly feels weaker, it is easy to blame sleeping wrong or carpal tunnel. But sometimes the real problem starts much higher up, in your neck. Ignoring it long enough can make the damage harder to reverse.

In this video, I'm going to show you the clues that make me look beyond the hand itself, the symptoms I take much more seriously, and what I would do next if these symptoms were happening to me.

    ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
0:00 Numbness or Weakness in Your Hands? Check Your Neck
0:42 Early signs people usually ignore
1:20 When the pattern change gets my attention
2:21 How a pinched neck nerve shows up in your hand
2:34 Irritated nerve versus a nerve losing function
4:33 When the spinal cord itself is compressed
6:37 Walking and balance changes that raise concern
7:01 Can this get better without surgery
8:19 When surgery becomes the better option
9:56 Three questions to ask yourself right now

    ❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Can numbness in your hand actually come from your neck? Yes. Nerves that control feeling and strength in your hands start in the neck and travel down through the shoulders and arms, so compression there can show up as hand numbness even if your neck itself does not hurt.

Do you need surgery for hand numbness from a pinched neck nerve? Not always. If strength is normal and symptoms are improving, conservative treatment like physical therapy, medication, or activity changes is often enough, but surgery becomes more urgent if weakness is progressing or the spinal cord is involved.

What symptoms mean a numb hand needs urgent evaluation? Progressive weakness, dropping things, worsening dexterity, or hand changes combined with balance or walking problems are signs that should not be watched and waited on.

  • Spine Surgeon Reveals: When You DON’T Need a Spinal Fusion
    2026/10/08

📌 Schedule a consultation or second opinion with Dr. Kibuule's team at https://www.myposhcare.com/

If you have been told you need a spinal fusion, you are probably asking one question. Is this really necessary? Three spine surgeons can look at the exact same MRI and not all recommend the same operation, and that gap is exactly what this episode clears up.

In this episode, I'm going to show you when I would not recommend a fusion, when a smaller operation may be enough, and the specific findings that make me say a spine really does need to be stabilized.

    ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
0:00 Spine Surgeon Reveals: When You DON’T Need a Spinal Fusion
0:45 Why sciatica does not automatically mean fusion
1:43 When a microdiscectomy is enough instead
    2:44 Spinal stenosis without instability
4:19 When fusion becomes the right answer
    5:32 Spondylolisthesis explained
6:20 Degenerative disc disease and MRI fear
7:59 Questions to ask before agreeing to fusion
8:28 The real line between smaller surgery and fusion

    ❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Does a herniated disc always require spinal fusion?
No. If the disc is pressing on a nerve but the spinal level is otherwise stable, a microdiscectomy that removes just the problem piece is often enough.

Does spondylolisthesis always mean I need a fusion?
Not automatically. The decision depends on whether the vertebra is actually moving abnormally and whether decompressing the nerve would leave that level unstable.

What question should I ask a surgeon before agreeing to a fusion?
Ask exactly what the fusion is supposed to fix and whether the same problem can be solved without it. A clear, specific answer about instability is what you want to hear, not a vague comment about the MRI looking bad.
