Happy Halloween!

Originally perched on a hill, the first dwelling was swept away when the railway arrived to haul limestone from the nearby quarries. In its place, further from the tracks, a new home rose in the 1870s. It was called Hill View,until the stories took hold and the village simply knew it as the Ghost House.

From a retired lighthouse keeper who swore he’d watched a woman in a riding habit ride across the grounds, to later residents who encountered her on the stairs in broad daylight, the house earned a reputation that still lingersin local memory.

This is the story of Hill View, the house that earned the name that the locals renamed it as the Ghost House.

JULY 2026 bonus episode

Two poltergeist cases on one housing estate -

The housing estate of Penhill in Swindon Wiltshire, was built in 1952- 1955 and was builtdue to the town expanding and it was to become an ‘overflow town’ in which to house those mainly moving from the city of London. The area on which the estate was built had been mainly farmland. It was a spacious place to live when it was first built and residents there seemed happy to class Penhill as their home.

From Black Shuck in East Anglia to the Barghest of Yorkshire, and the many regionalvariations in between, accounts of these mysterious beasts have circulated forcenturies. Are they merely superstition, psychological phenomena, or somethingmore unexplained? On this episode, join me as I share some of thehistory and documented sightings of these haunting creatures. On this episode, we’ll look at some of the more ghoulish happenings in Gloucestershire.The word ghoul- comes from ancient Arabic folklore, a desert demon said to lurk in graveyards, that robbed fresh graves, and devoured the dead. These were shape-shifting monsters that lured travellers to their doom. When the word crossed into English in the 18th century, “ghoul” kept its graveyard associations, and by the 19th century “ghoulish” emerged as the perfect adjective for anything that revels in the macabre: a fascination with death, disaster, or the grotesque.

Listen and watch as we step into the shadows of 2 unsettling tales, both of which, refuse to be left in the past. A cursed lead tablet found in a house but written before the house was even built and then to a named grave at a crossroads. It may be named but no one knows just who, or what, is buried there. Tales of witchcraft and a curse, all here in this episode I’ve called GhoulishGloucestershire.
