I'm Emma, a Brit who decided in my forties to leave a safe, predictable life behind and build a new one in Italy.

I'd been coming to Italy since 2006, but it wasn't until 2023 that I finally made the move. Since then I've discovered that moving countries is only part of the story. There's the paperwork, the bureaucracy, the property searches and the practical reality of creating a life somewhere new. But there's also what happens to you when you decide the life you've built no longer quite fits.

Starting Over in Italy is where I share both sides. We'll talk about the reality of moving to Italy and navigating life here, but also the culture, the surprises, the things Italy has taught me, and what it means to start again in midlife.

Today, Italy is home. I live here with my Italian partner, Max, and our Jack Russell, Trilly, and after years of dreaming about having a place of my own here, I've now bought my own home in Lazio.
