  • Un-Learning Diet Culture and Building Body Trust with Jess Wood
    2025/05/28

In this episode, I talk with Jess Wood, emerging coach with Body Trust, who faced her own struggles with diet culture and disordered eating. Jess is currently working on certification through Body Trust to help others unlearn the rules of diet culture, reawaken connection with their bodies, to embrace empowerment and body liberation. In our conversation we defined what is meant by diet culture, how diet culture limits and restricts our potential, how to embrace body liberation, and what unlearning diet culture means and what it can yield.

Some highlights (with timestamps) from our conversation:

5:30--What do we mean by diet culture?

    9:50--What does body liberation mean?

20:09--What is the importance of community in unlearning diet culture?

    20:48--What does unlearning look like?

23:40--What are the costs of diet culture?

  • Cultivating Somatic Wisdom with Caitlin Clarke
    2025/01/17

In this podcast, somatic coach Caitlin Clarke and I talk about her journey into somatics, how somatics invites us into a new way of experiencing and knowing, and what the somatic opportunites of the new year offer us.
Caitlin was my original somatic coach and through this interview we both share how our own somatic journeys shaped our coaching development, and how our continued somatic practices and understanding support us. We also explore the roots of somatic practice, and honor both the indigenous cultures and natural teachers that have anchored the field of somatics.
Beyond Caitlin's extensive training and certification as a somatic coach, she brings over two decades of healing experience, ten years of daily meditation practice, and multiple spiritual awakenings to her work with clients. She has taught mindfulness and meditation for individuals and organizations. And she's studied with leaders in the fields of somatics, Buddhism, and trauma to develop my unique, holistic approach. • A New Innermission: My Journey into Somatics
    2024/10/01

My previous work on the podcast was about cognitive processing and intellectual reflection during moments of transition. But when I went through my latest life transition, losing my mom, I realized that there were just some journeys that my brain wasn't my best guide. By getting curious about the world of somatics, I found a way to bring my full self--head, heart, and hara (or gut intuition) into my process. Along the way I learned some essential practices, found some long sought after answers, and found truly embodied transformation that led to long-lasting change in my life. Join me in the new season of My Innermission to investigate the power of somatics and somatic practices in our transitions and transformations.

  • Resilience and Recovery with Anna Switzer
    2021/04/01

In this episode, I invited Anna Switzer, author of License to Learn, to return to the podcast and share thoughts on transition one year into the pandemic. I interviewed Anna a year ago when the pandemic first caused shutdowns. Now, a year later, we talk about how the pandemic and the learning from this past year has led us all to a transition opportunity. We revisit Anna's book and think more about how our known zones, learning zones, and panic zones have changed, and how to look to building resilience and recovery in order to unlock the Gift Zone and figure out what's next for us in the coming year. We discuss:

    • How does transition change our zones?
    • How has the past year led to collective transition?
    • How can we unlock the Gift Zone from the lessons learned in the past year?

If you want to learn more about Anna's work, you can find more information at her website annaswitzer.com

    2021/03/25

Big changes in life often make us focus on what we are giving up or gaining and then we want to jump right into what is next--but what lies in between? This week I highlight the transition process from William Bridges in his book Transitions: Making Sense of Life's Changes and focus on the neutral zone. In this episode I discuss:

    • What is the neutral zone and why is it a necessary part of transitions?
    • How do we step into the neutral zone with intention and not rush the process?
    • Why is the neutral zone particularly important in this moment for ALL of us?

If you want a tool to help process the transitions of the past year, check out the My Innermission journal here.
