Since the relationship began, Jonny has also been able to free himself from previous gender labels and come out as pansexual. All of these elements together have culminated in the couple being viewed as controversial. He said, "When Saurora and I got together and we were talking to our friends and family members, it caused a lot of friction. Insults were flying around." They've also encountered hate online, with comments such as "You look sad behind your eyes" and "Where's your self-respect?"
