  • 150: The Fifth Element, Gary Oldman and Django
    2026/08/19

How much is there to say about 1997’s The Fifth Element, beyond the great production design and some fun performances… not a whole lot it turns out.

There’s the Gary Oldman Game though, and who won acting Oscar chat, and there is a prolonged diversion into Django Unchained.

  • 149: Zorro, The Mexican Batman & The Costume Department
    2026/08/12
The Mask of Zorro, starring Antonio Bandares, Anthony Hopkins & Catherine Zeta-Jones, is the film of choice for today's episode. But don't worry: Joe & Adam barely talk about it.

  • 148: Grogu, Supergirl, Savage House et al: What We Watched
    2026/08/05

Joe and Adam muse over films they’ve seen recently, focusing on a shoddy trip to the cinema for 500 Miles. Plus Supergirl gets both barrels for its approach to covers, Mando & Grogu splits opinion and Savage House gets some heady praise. But it’s not really about the movies (or films) is it? It’s the fun in between.

  • 147: One Battle After Another: Joe Made Me Watch
    2026/07/29

Revisiting the most lauded film of 2025, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another (or for the too busy to say things fully: PTA’s OBAA).

Joe loved it, saw it twice. Adam was chillier… has he chilled? And what Christopher Nolan got to do with it? Expect to hear all about expectation and a run down of PTA’s oeuvre (love that word.) This is the last in this current solo series, and it’s the best one.

  • 146: The Odyssey & Ranking Chris Nolan’s Films
    2026/07/22

It’s here, Sir Christopher Nolan’s take on Homer’s epic tale of a man’s journey home, The Odyssey. Starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland et al, the MYFYF duo ponder what went right and what went wrong. Spoiler alert: there are spoilers.

They then each rank and rate Nolan’s films (leaving out Following, Insomnia and Batman Begins though, cos Joe hasn’t seen those). Enjoy!

  • 145: The Seventh Seal: Joe Made Me Watch; plus Scrat’s Woes
    2026/07/15

Some films carry a weight: it’s a classic; it’s a masterpiece, it’s a classic masterpiece. Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal is one such film, and Joe loves it. Till now, it’s never felt like the right time for Adam to dally with Bergman. Now Joe has made him watch a Knight play chess with Death.

This episode comes with no weight, it’s a tale of a man, a film and a rusty nail.

  • 144: First Blood: Joe Made Me Watch; plus Sir Christopher Nolan calls Homer
    2026/07/08

This week, Joe made Adam watch First Blood, starring John J Rambo aka Slyvester Stallone. How come 80s action aficionado Adam never watched it? It stirs all sorts of thoughts, not least on loners new in town, righteous kills and how inevitable is it that such films male violent anti-heroes aspirational.

Also: Sir Christopher puts in a call to Homer, to check all’s good.

  • 142: Lion feat. Dev Patel: Joe Made Me Watch
    2026/07/01

Joe’s busy for a few weeks or so, but he’s getting Adam to watch some films and talk about them.

First up for this is 2016’s Lion, directed by Garth Davis and starring Dev Patel.

It’s a good flick, well worth watching - but how good? Can Joe guess what Adam will think of it?
