Movie 101 Review features Jason D. Morris, an independent filmmaker, director, editor, and producer with more than two decades of experience creating horror films, documentaries, digital content, and independent productions. In this episode, Jason takes us behind the scenes of independent filmmaking and explores an important question: Does a bigger budget really make a more creative movie? Drawing from his experience with Resurrection Films and Dead in Films, Jason explains why creativity isn't necessarily determined by how much money filmmakers have available. While larger budgets can provide access to bigger sets, equipment, visual effects, and production resources, he argues that the heart of filmmaking begins long before the cameras start rolling. Jason discusses why pre-production may account for some of the most important creative work in filmmaking. From developing the script and understanding locations to assembling the right team and carefully planning each scene, preparation can determine how effectively filmmakers bring their vision to life. The conversation also examines an unexpected advantage of working with limited resources: constraints can fuel creativity. When independent filmmakers cannot simply spend their way out of a problem, they are forced to think differently, understand their environment, collaborate closely, and discover inventive ways to tell their stories. Join Movie 101 Review for a fascinating look inside indie filmmaking, where experience, preparation, collaboration, and imagination can sometimes matter more than the size of the production budget.
