  • Movie 101 Review in its Fourth season, featuring Casablanca the most enduring films ever made..
    2025/09/08

Set during World War II, Casablanca isn’t just a love story—it’s a portrait of a world caught in chaos, where romance collides with duty, and personal choices carry global consequences.

That’s part of what makes this movie timeless: it reflects universal struggles.Directed by Michael Curtiz, the film stars Humphrey Bogart as Rick Blaine, Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa Lund, and Paul Henreid as Victor Laszlo. Around them, a colorful ensemble of characters creates an unforgettable atmosphere that’s both intimate and epic.Let’s start with Rick Blaine, the weary nightclub owner in Casablanca, Morocco. Rick is cynical, detached, and politically neutral—or so he claims. But as the film unfolds, we see his hardened shell crack, revealing a man of principle beneath the bitterness.

Opposite him is Ilsa Lund, portrayed by Ingrid Bergman with luminous grace. Ilsa embodies love, loyalty, and moral complexity. Her reappearance in Rick’s life forces him to confront a past he’s been running from, and her presence sparks the central conflict of the film.

. And then there’s Victor Laszlo, the heroic resistance leader. Played with quiet dignity by Paul Henreid, Laszlo represents courage, selflessness, and the fight against tyranny. His role anchors the film in its larger wartime stakes.

  • Movie 101 Review in its Fourth season, featuring Thunderbolts
    2025/08/31
Thunderbolts is one of Marvel’s most anticipated ensemble films, bringing together a ragtag group of antiheroes, outcasts, and reformed villains who are forced to work under government command. Instead of polished superheroes with spotless reputations, this team is made up of morally gray characters—individuals with dark pasts, questionable motives, and fractured loyalties. The film promises a darker, grittier tone within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, balancing explosive action with complex character dynamics and uneasy alliances. At its core, Thunderbolts explores the theme of redemption—whether people defined by mistakes and villainy can truly rise above their flaws when the world needs them most. With its mix of intensity, humor, and raw humanity, the movie stands out as a bold shift from Marvel’s typical superhero narratives, positioning itself as a thrilling story about unlikely heroes who may not save the world the “right” way, but will stop at nothing to get the job done.

  • Movie 101 Review in its Fourth season, with Mr.Bob LeMent as my Co-cohost
    2025/06/02

The film, which has now earned an astonishing 103 film festival awards, was originally

slated for release in January but was respectfully postponed due to the devastating Los

Angeles fires earlier this year. Roswell Delirium is now officially streaming on Prime

    Video and Apple TV.

Lauded for its emotionally grounded storytelling, Roswell Delirium Is set in an alternate

version of the 1980s in the aftermath of nuclear war. At the heart of the film is a deeply

moving story about a mother and daughter, brought to life by a new generation of talent

led by 13-year-old breakout star Kylee Levien. Supporting her is a powerful ensemble

of fresh young talent such as Ashton Solecki, Kayden Tokarski, Georgia MacPhail, and

Romyn Smith—many of whom rose to prominence on the popular YouTube show Dhar

Mann Studios—forming a “new Brat Pack.”

"Roswell Delirium has some Spielberg-like sci-fi elements, but at its heart, it's a moving

story about a mother and daughter finding each other. Our young cast gave incredible

performances — we’re so proud of them,” says Hall

The cast features cameos from Anthony Michael Hall, Dee Wallace, Reginald

VelJohnson, Lisa Whelchel, and Sam Jones- familiar faces that help anchor the film

in a 1980s setting, while tackling deeply relevant themes such as trauma, mental health,

and the fragile bond between a mother and daughter.

Directed, written, and produced by Richard Bakewell, Roswell Delirium blends retro

sci-fi adventure with real-world themes of trauma, memory, and family resilience. In an

alternate 1980s America ravaged by nuclear fallout, young Mayday Malone intercepts

an intergalactic distress signal on her ham radio, leading her to Spacerock—a

mysterious site near Area 51. Exposed to lethal radiation, Mayday's health deteriorates

rapidly. Desperate, her mother returns to Spacerock, hoping alien intervention can save

her daughter. The film explores themes of trauma, memory, and the unbreakable bond

    between mother and daughter.

“I wanted to create something that resonates emotionally across generations. It’s a love

letter to the 80s and centers around the decay of mental illness. Whether you grew up in

the shadow of the Cold War or are navigating today’s uncertainties, this story is

ultimately about resilience, imagination, and the people we fight for when everything

    else falls away,” says Bakewell.

The film’s haunting score was composed by Troy Van Leeuwen, guitarist of Queens of

the Stone Age, marking his first feature-length score—a debut that has already earned

two awards for Best Original Music.
