  • 665: Demons Avenged - 2026 Le Mans 24 Hours Review

    Welcome back, Toyota, it's good to see you again. I'll let RJ's excellent guide to the show guide this description for our Le Mans 24 Hours Review, sorry it was slightly later than planned - Dre

    For over three decades, Toyota at Le Mans was a tale of persistent sorrow, with its lowest moment coming ten years ago when its leading car, with Kazuki Nakajima behind the wheel, retired from the lead as it took the white flag. Toyota had since gotten the win at Le Mans after 33 years of trying, but only after LMP1 rivals Audi and Porsche left the sport, leaving Toyota to pick off five straight wins against several privateer efforts (and RebAlpine, for a bit). Since the proper start of the OEM Hypercar era, however, Toyota had gotten reacquainted with disappointment at Le Mans, narrowly finishing second twice to Ferrari in the last three years and falling further away last year.

    But now, at last, Toyota has a Le Mans win with no qualifiers, no “yeah but”s, no cubic zirconia, no purported asterisks – going through strong competition to get there in the form of BMW M Team WRT and Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA, who put forth two very strong efforts all race week. The #20 BMW (Frijns/Rast/Sheldon van der Linde) surged to the lead on the first lap, the #8 (Buemi/Hartley/Hirakawa) Toyota TR010 Hybrid led the most laps after going to an alternate pit strategy early, and Cadillac then gained the advantage by being the first to switch to soft tyres at night.

    Yet it was the #7 Toyota of Mike Conway, Nyck de Vries, and Kamui Kobayashi that came back from a mediocre first quarter of the race, impeded by an untimely puncture and a driveshaft sensor problem, which took home the victory. A Safety Car for Porsche driver Ayhancan Güven’s big crash, and a Full Course Yellow for a broken down Aston Martin LMGT3 car, and some crafty overtaking (Golden Melon, anyone?) helped the #7 Toyota take the lead and never give it up.

    It’s Conway and Kobayashi’s second overall wins at Le Mans for Toyota, and the first for de Vries. The #20 BMW came a close second, finishing 10.9 seconds off the win in the second-closest competitive finish at Le Mans in event history, while the #8 Toyota and #12 Cadillac (Stevens/Nato/Deletraz) finished third and fourth.

  • 664: He's Back - 2026 F1 Barcelona Grand Prix Review

    Apologies if you were expecting a more in-depth episode title.

    Dre, Cam and RJ are finally back together and with it, a ludicrous victory at the Barcelona GP (Catalunya to its friends), for Lewis Hamilton, his first victory for Ferrari and his first himself since the 2024 Belgium Grand Prix he inherited.

    It makes for an interesting dynamic as we enter the one third stage in the title race. Is Ferrari back in the game now Mercedes has finally been defeated? Is Charles Leclerc now cooked and resigned to being Ferrari's #2 driver? And is Lewis a genuine title threat now he's only 41 points behind Kimi Antonelli?

    Beyond that, more on George Russell after another rough day from the lead of a race, Antonelli's battery failing just as he was taking another head-to-head, the latest on Podiumgate from Monaco as Pierre Gasly gets a podium finish reinstated, and now Nico Hulkenberg suffered a genuine one in a million car failure.

  • 663: The Last Leg - IndyCar 2026 Gateway Review

    And finally, to wrap up out ultra-block of episodes: IndyCar at Gateway for the Bommarito 500, and in shocking news - Josef Newgarden, even on one good leg, is still fast enough to keep his status as the best Oval Racer in the world.

    It was a race of unpredictability and adaptability. We had multiple cautions for crashes, such as Alex Palou and Nolan Siegel combining, with Siegel coming off the worst of it, Graham Rahal off at Turn 4 too. We had multiple rain showers across the race that led to red flags, and a mighty strategic screw up for Chip Ganassi Racing that led to Scott Dixon taking emergency service and Alex Palou losing 2 laps due to running out of fuel on pit road. Disasater for the reigning Champion.

    At the front, a fight between three men in IndyCar crossroads - Josef Newgarden, still waiting for a new contract for 2027, and hanging around 6th in points, below his usual high standards. Christian Rasmussen, getting a new contract design on paper, an awful season where he's barely in the leader's circle. And Marcus Ericsson, who faces a fight to keep his job at Andretti Global. What will happen in the future for a talented podium that needs results?

    And Dre has to poor some cold water on Myles Rowe's Indy NXT comeback of the Gods as he went from 24th to the win. All that on another Motorsport101!
