    • Disha speaks about Importance of Biofuel in recent times and country which is using the most fossil fuel in the world. World BioFuel Day is observed on 10 August every year.
    • It was first observed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in August 2015 and commemorates the successful operation of an engine using peanut oil by Sir Rudolf Diesel on 9 August 1893
    • The day promotes biofuels as cleaner and renewable alternatives to petrol and diesel.
      Biofuels can be made from crop waste, plants, animal waste, algae and used cooking oil.
      Major biofuels include ethanol, biodiesel and Bio CNG.
    • Biofuels can help reduce pollution and dependence on imported crude oil.
    • They can also create additional income opportunities for farmers by using agricultural waste.
      India has programmes such as the Ethanol Blending Programme, PM JI VAN Yojana and GOBAR DHAN to support biofuels.
