More Than Wet Skin: Water Baptism and a Changed Heart | Capt. Rajesh Daniel

Water baptism is visible on the outside, but its true meaning reaches much deeper than the skin.

In this Bible-based message, Capt. Rajesh Daniel explores Colossians 2:11–12 and reveals why baptism must never become an empty religious ritual.

A person can enter the water with a dry body and come out with a wet body while remaining unchanged in the heart. A pastor can place someone beneath the water, but only Jesus Christ can transform the heart. A church may provide a baptism certificate, but only the Holy Spirit can give new life.

Under the old covenant, circumcision was an outward sign that someone belonged to God’s covenant people. Paul, however, speaks about a deeper spiritual work—the putting off of the sinful nature through Christ.

Water baptism does not merely say, “My body has been washed.”

It declares:

“Through Jesus Christ, the old life has been put off. My heart and my life now belong to God.”

Baptism is the outward testimony of inward repentance, faith, and surrender. Colossians teaches that we are buried with Christ in baptism and raised with Him through faith in the working of God. The power is not in human ability or ordinary water—the power belongs to God.

Going beneath the water represents burial. We do not bury something because we intend to bring it home again. Yet many people return from baptism and attempt to recover the same pride, unforgiveness, secret sin, addiction, hatred, dishonesty, and worldly desires they declared buried.

Do not dig up what you surrendered to Christ.

When Lazarus came out of the tomb, Jesus commanded that his grave clothes be removed. Lazarus had received life, but he was not meant to continue dressed like a dead man.

Likewise, someone raised with Christ should not continue wearing the habits of the grave. Colossians 3:1 teaches that those who have been raised with Christ should set their hearts on things above.

Baptism does not only change what we leave behind; it changes what we pursue. We begin pursuing holiness, truth, prayer, God’s Word, and the will of God.

Water cannot change the heart, but a heart changed by Jesus will willingly obey Him in the water.

Jesus commanded His disciples to baptize believers in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

In the name of the Father, because He calls us into covenant, removes the heart of stone, and receives us as His children.

In the name of the Son, because Jesus took our sinful life to the cross, was buried, and rose again so that we could receive new life.

In the name of the Holy Spirit, because He renews our hearts, lives within us, and produces the character of Christ in us.

Join Capt. Rajesh Daniel for this powerful revelation and discover why water baptism must be more than wet skin—it must testify that the old life has been buried and that a new life in Christ has begun.
