Luke Chapter 5 gives us the headline of Four Fishermen Called As Disciples but the headline only gives us one part of the story. The story of the calling of Peter and his fellow fishermen reveals a greater story and that is the story of God's great redemption plan of John 3:16.

It goes on to share to us to never lose heart because God does discipline us because He loves us as His children and if we are truly His children then discipline is part of our maturing.

Jesus lived in a culture culture teaming with hostilities and tensions against the Jews and others. There were racial divisions and vilification of groups like the Samaritans and segregation and political strife between the Pharisees and Sadducees, the Herodians, Essenes and Zealots, the taxing isolating culture against the sick, the poor and homeless and in the midst of all this, Jesus comes on the scene and starts his preaching ministry speaking love God, love yourself and love others.

Luke chapter 7 gives us an incredible story of events between a Pharisee, an unnamed woman and Jesus. The woman comes into a scene where the Pharisee is practicing what is known as Tzedakah but Jesus cuts through the social layers and deals with the issues of the heart and rearranges the room. Verse 44 shows us an incredible picture - Jesus looks at the woman but addresses Simon.

Wherever God is good things grow. In 1 Peter chapter 4 we read that God has given each us as followers of Jesus Christ a variety of gifts, not just a variety but a great variety and we are to use these gifts to serve on another. Ps Narelle brings us into the word to look at how we serve God and His purpose and in that proccess we serve each other.

Whatever happened to the Gospel, is the Gospel just as effective today as it was in the past? George shares with us from the Matthew 13 and the parable of the pearl, God gives a gift of righteousness to the sinner. The parable is not about pearls, but it is about the gift of righteousness that God gives to sinful people. What sort of person considers the pearl of great price, the person who understands its true value, righteousness from God. God sees the person you really are the real Gospel recues us from sin and death wretched though we are and who will rescue this body of death. Praise be to God for our Lord Jesus Christ.
