In September 2009, 24-year-old Mitrice Richardson was arrested at a Malibu restaurant after she couldn’t pay an $89 bill and was acting strangely. Despite her unusual behavior and concerns expressed by her family, Mitrice was released from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station around 12:15 a.m. without her car, phone, money, or transportation. She was 40 miles from home in an unfamiliar area. Her mother reported her missing the following morning, but authorities delayed issuing a BOLO and waited two days to conduct their first search.

Nearly a year later, Mitrice’s body was discovered in Malibu Canyon, several miles from where she was last seen. Her cause of death was classified as undetermined, leaving her family convinced that unanswered questions remain about what happened to her.
