  • Common Room Conversations: Erica and the Magic We Grew Up With
    2026/09/19

A quick heads-up: This episode includes hella spoilers across the Harry Potter books, films, and extended wizarding world, plus fan theories, strong opinions, and occasional adult language.

Tonight, there is an extra chair by the fire.

In the first Common Room Conversation, Raven welcomes her best friend Erica, who has been part of her life since they were three years old. Together, they revisit growing up alongside the Harry Potter books and films, racing to finish new releases, listening to audiobooks on cassette, and discovering the wizarding world before either of them knew how much it would stay with them.

From Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Dumbledore, Draco Malfoy, and the shifting ways we understand adult characters, to house identities, Time-Turners, Mrs. Norris theories, Gary Oldman’s Sirius, reading as escape, and a Common Room Quiz, this is a warm, funny, occasionally chaotic conversation between two friends who have carried this story through decades of life.

Put your chair closer to the fire, grab a butterbeer or a cup of tea, and join us in the common room.

As promised, here is the wonderful and talented narrator we grew up with as kids on our cassette tapes: Jim Dale (US)! And, interestingly, I just found out that the UK versions were narrated by Stephen Fry! Now, I have to listen to that one.

  • Welcome to Ollivanders! Wandlore and the Meaning of Power
    2026/09/10

Welcome to Ollivanders, Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C.

For today’s Hogwarts seminar– we are meeting for a field trip, we are leaving the castle, gathering in Diagon Alley, and stepping into the narrow, dust-filled shop where a wand may be waiting to choose its witch or wizard.

In this episode of Mischief, Meaning, & Magic, Raven explores wandlore as something far deeper than magical accessories or personality labels.

What does it mean to be chosen by a wand? What can wood, core, length, and flexibility reveal, and where does the mystery remain? Why are Harry Potter and Voldemort connected through the twin phoenix-feather cores of their wands? And what does the Elder Wand’s bloody history reveal about allegiance, possession, power, and the desire to become invincible?

We will follow the thread from Harry’s first visit to Ollivanders through Priori Incantatem, Draco Malfoy’s disarming of Dumbledore, Harry’s own complicated relationship with power, and Voldemort’s fatal misunderstanding of what it means to truly master a wand.

Because in the Wizarding World, a wand can be held, inherited, stolen, or pursued.

Its allegiance has a story of its own.

Welcome to Ollivanders! A Wandlore Field Trip Handout includes a guide to wand woods, cores, lengths, flexibility, wand allegiance, and reflection questions for your own wand.

A special thank-you to u/niaswish for suggesting wandlore and helping inspire this episode’s field trip.

NOTE: There may be more wandlore ahead in this series, so stay tuned. As for the occasional faint barking in the background, I can only assume Ollivander has acquired a dog since Harry’s first visit. The canine assistant was not listed on our field-trip itinerary, but they were clearly committed to participating in the seminar.

  • Why Hogwarts Still Feels Like Home
    2026/09/04

Why does Hogwarts still feel like home?

In the first episode of Mischief, Meaning, & Magic, Raven explores Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone through themes of belonging, identity, friendship, power, and the need for recognition.

From Harry’s life at Privet Drive to the letters that refuse to stop coming, the Philosopher’s Stone, Voldemort’s fear of death, and the friendship that forms between Harry, Ron, and Hermione, this episode looks at the emotional architecture beneath the magic.

Why do some stories stay with us long after we know how they end? And what happens when we return to them as someone different from the person we were when we first encountered them?
