Sometimes we keep pushing because walking away feels like failure.
We have already invested the time, the money, the relationships, the identity, and the years of effort, so surely we are supposed to keep going.
But what if continuing is not perseverance?
What if it is misalignment?
In this episode of Empower Hour with Lady J, Jodi Marie explores the difference between persistence and alignment, why resilience without discernment can become self-abandonment, and how chronic depletion can be a signal that something deserves honest evaluation.
She shares personal lessons from entrepreneurship, real estate, fitness, burnout, bankruptcy, faith, and the journey behind Alone: A Story of Finding Self, while challenging listeners to examine the areas of life they may be carrying simply because letting go would feel like failure.
You will hear about:
- Why changing direction does not erase what a season taught you
- The danger of tying identity to titles, accomplishments, and outcomes
- Burnout, emotional exhaustion, and the importance of recognizing misalignment early
- Why previous investments should not automatically determine your future
- The role of faith, discernment, courage, and surrender
- How redirection can become visible only after movement
- Why disappointing outcomes do not have to define you
The episode closes with two important questions:
What are you still carrying because putting it down would make you feel like you failed?
If failure were completely removed from the equation, would you still choose it?

And remember:
Misalignment is not failure.
One note: I would not lead the title with “burnout,” even though burnout is a meaningful part of the episode. The transcript makes it clear that the central promise is broader: alignment, discernment, identity, and knowing when to stop forcing a path. Burnout is one consequence and warning sign, not the entire episode.
