Jake Snider of Minus the Bear joins the Vulgar Display of Podcast to talk about the 20th anniversary of the landmark album Menos El Oso, the band’s return to the road, and the upcoming 20 Years of Menos El Oso Tour.

Minus the Bear brings the anniversary tour to The Sovereign in St. Louis, Missouri on September 6, giving St. Louis fans the chance to hear one of the band’s most celebrated albums brought back to life on stage.

During the conversation, Jake Snider reflects on what it feels like to revisit Menos El Oso 20 years later and why the album continues to connect with listeners. He discusses the songwriting and lyric-writing process, how traveling influenced the record, and how the legendary Line 6 DL4 delay pedal became such an important part of Minus the Bear’s unmistakable guitar sound.

Jake also talks about how the meaning of songs can change over time, the importance of creating a complete body of work in an increasingly singles-driven music industry, and why Menos El Oso represents such an important moment in the evolution of Minus the Bear.

The conversation also looks at the current version of Minus the Bear on stage. Jake believes the band is performing better than ever, with drummer Josh Sparks playing an important role in bringing new energy to the songs while honoring what made the original recordings special.

For longtime Minus the Bear fans, this is a deep dive into the history, sound, and legacy of Menos El Oso as the band celebrates two decades of an album that helped define their career.
