  • Milan Magic: Gabriella Papadakis reveals hidden side of Olympic figure skating. Power struggles. Abuse. And silence.
    2026/02/11

In this special edition of Milan Magic, USA TODAY Sports columnist Christine Brennan sits down with Olympic champion ice dancer Gabriella Papadakis to talk about her book, 'To Not Disappear,' which speaks on the unseen power dynamics women face in elite figure skating. After publishing the book, NBC fired Papadakis from her Olympics analyst role, citing objectivity concerns. Papadakis wrote about her former partner, Guillaume Cizeron, calling him "often controlling, demanding and critical,” and said she would not skate with him unless a coach was present at practices. Cizeron is competing in the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics with a new partner, Laurence Fournier Beaudry, whose former partner was banned from the sport after a sexual abuse investigation. The French pair is battling Team USA's Madison Chock and Evan Bates for the gold medal Wednesday, Feb. 11.
