概要
This week's edition of Copeland's Corner, with featured panelists Tom Sawyer, Kevin Avery, and Jim Vallaly, centered on the upcoming midterm elections, with discussion of Trump's approval ratings bottoming out at 30-31% and the Justice Department's plan to deploy roughly 1,000 election monitors across all 50 states on election day. The panel debated whether Trump supporters should be characterized as "stupid" or "gullible," with Jim pushing back against the term "stupid" while Brian argued many of these voters are "completely and totally resistant to facts" after investing years of relationships and personal cost into their beliefs 1. The conversation then shifted to the SEIU Local 1000 one-day strike by 100,000 California state employees over pay and remote-work flexibility, with Jim arguing remote work arrangements should be voluntary and tied to potential pay trade-offs. Jim also shared behind-the-scenes insight from writing on The Golden Girls, describing it as "lightning in a bottle" due to exceptional casting and Susan Harris's character work, while dispelling exaggerated rumors of hostility between Bea Arthur and Betty White. The second half covered lighter and more varied territory, including Democratic plans to issue subpoenas on day one if Congress flips, with Kevin cautioning against empty follow-through and Tom advocating for building legal groundwork rather than pursuing another impeachment. The group also discussed Catholic upbringing and how church community dynamics have shifted since the 1950s-60s, road rage and driving etiquette stories (including Kevin recounting a high-speed chase from his youth), and the television/film industry including Netflix's layoffs and the shrinking size of writers' rooms. Halloween was a recurring theme, with Brian noting there is only one documented case of poisoned candy in American history, and the panel closing with a debate over gender-swapped casting (like Sherri Shepherd playing the genie in Broadway's Aladdin) and reminiscing about classic shows like The Rockford Files and Jim's personal story about meeting James Garner.--Connect with our Guests...#KevinAvery - @KevinAveryComedy on Instagram and his Maximum Film!
