The Midlife Spirituality Project is a podcast for spiritually seeking midlife women who are ready to come home to themselves. If you are navigating midlife anxiety, overwhelm, burnout, disconnection, perimenopause, menopause, body changes, and the deeper questions of purpose, identity, and what comes next - welcome to the community. Each week, we explore how to move through midlife with more intention, presence, connection and trust and by blending yoga philosophy, meditation, breathwork, nervous system regulation, emotional regulation, and modern therapeutic tools. Through honest solo reflections, inspiring interviews, and practical conversations, we talk about midlife, purpose, emotional healing, self-compassion, people pleasing, relationships, motherhood, intuition, inner peace, self-discovery, cooonection and coming home to yourself. You’ll also hear expert conversations on perimenopause and menopause, hormone therapy, healthy aging, longevity, movement, nutrition, career transitions, financial stress, body image, and how to care for your changing body and mind with more awareness and compassion. If you’ve been asking: Why do I feel so disconnected from myself, and how do I reconnect with who I really am? How do I manage strong emotions in midlife? What is my purpose? How do I regulate my nervous system and feel more grounded? How do I learn to listen to my intuition and trust myself? I’m not religious, but I long for a deeper spiritual connection — how do I find that? How do I stop judging, comparing, and criticizing myself and others? How do I let go of fear and move forward with more alignment? What is happening in my body after 40? How do I connect with this new body and honor what it needs? How can I shift my mindset to embrace this season of life? How do I navigate perimenopause and menopause with more clarity? Can I reinvent myself at 40, 50, and beyond? How do I stop people pleasing and start honoring my own needs? How do I get unstuck? What spiritual practices actually help in midlife? I’ve been through hard things — how do I make sense of them, heal, and move forward? How do I find more meaning, alignment, and purpose in midlife? This podcast is for you. • E176: The G Word in Midlife: Reconnecting With God Beyond Religion
    2026/09/28
A reflection on spiritual connection, suffering, awakened awareness, and finding your way back to God, Source, Spirit, or the Divine in midlife. In this episode of The Midlife Spirituality Project, we are talking about the word many people have a complicated relationship with: God.Not necessarily religion. Not dogma. Not the version of God you may have inherited, rejected, feared, outgrown, or felt disconnected from. But God as presence. God as Source. God as Spirit, the Divine, Higher Power, the Universe, Life, Love, or whatever language helps you name the sacred intelligence that moves through and around us.For many of us, our relationship with God changes over time. Maybe you felt connected as a child and lost that connection somewhere along the way. Maybe religion made the word God feel uncomfortable. Maybe you long for spiritual connection but do not know what to call it. Or maybe midlife has opened questions you can no longer ignore: What do I believe? What supports me? What helps me feel held? What changes when I stop trying to carry everything alone? In this episode, I invite you to reflect on your own relationship with God — not as a concept to defend or debate, but as a relationship to explore. We talk about the growing body of research suggesting that spiritual connection is part of our human wiring, while also acknowledging that connection is something we can choose to cultivate. Like any relationship, our relationship with the Divine deepens when we return to it regularly. We also explore how spiritual connection can change our relationship with suffering. It may not remove the hard things from our lives, but it can change how we move through them. It can help us feel less alone, less anxious, less controlling, and more grounded in meaning, trust, and presence. This episode also explores the difference between achievement awareness and awakened awareness — the part of us that measures, performs, strives, and controls versus the part of us that remembers we are held, guided, connected, and more than what we accomplish. This is not an episode about telling you what to believe. It is an invitation to ask:When did I last feel connected? What name do I give that connection? And what might change if I began tending to it again? In This Episode, We Talk AboutWhy the word God can feel complicatedThe difference between God and religionHow our relationship with God may change over timeWhy spiritual connection matters in midlifeThe idea that humans may be wired for spiritual connectionWhy spiritual connection still requires choice and practiceHow connection to God can change our relationship with sufferingAchievement awareness versus awakened awarenessWhy regular spiritual connection strengthens the relationshipHow spiritual connection can help us feel more grounded, less anxious, and less controllingGentle ways to begin reconnecting with God, Source, Spirit, the Divine, or your own sacred languageReflection QuestionsWhat was my relationship with God like when I was younger?Did I feel close to God, distant from God, afraid of God, confused by God, or disconnected from God?What shaped my understanding of God?Was my relationship with God connected to religion, or did it feel separate from religion? What words feel true for me now — God, Source, Spirit, Divine, Higher Power, Universe, Life, Love, or something else? When did I last feel connected to something greater than myself?Where do I feel that connection most easily — in nature, prayer, meditation, music, stillness, movement, service, beauty, or something else? How might my relationship with suffering change if I felt more spiritually connected?Would I feel less alone?Would I feel less anxious or controlling?Would I move through life with more trust, meaning, or steadiness? What is one simple way I could begin tending to this relationship again?Gentle Ways to ReconnectYou do not need to force belief. You do not need to use language that does not feel true. You do not need to return to a religious structure that no longer fits. You can begin simply.Sit in silence.Place a hand on your heart.Speak honestly to God, Source, Spirit, or the Divine.Walk in nature.Listen for guidance.Notice beauty.Pray in your own words.Ask to be shown the next right step.Let yourself be held by something greater than your own mind.Spiritual connection does not have to be complicated.Sometimes it begins with one honest sentence:I don’t know what I believe anymore, but I am willing to listen.About Katie FarinasKatie Farinas is a midlife coach, yoga teacher, and spiritual guide who helps women navigate midlife with clarity, peace, purpose, and empowerment. • 175: Feeling Lost in Midlife? The Path to Self-Trust, Alignment & Purpose
    2026/09/21
What if feeling lost in midlife isn’t a sign that something has gone wrong—but an invitation to come back to yourself? Many women reach midlife with lives that look successful from the outside, yet internally they feel disconnected, overwhelmed, unsure of what they want, or like they’re simply going through the motions. Things that once brought joy or fulfillment may no longer feel meaningful, and the question begins to surface: What do I actually want now?In this episode, I’m taking you behind the scenes of the coaching journey I guide women through and showing you how yoga philosophy becomes a practical map for moving from disconnection and self-doubt toward self-trust, alignment, and purpose. We’ll walk through the five phases of this process: reconnecting with yourself, building self-trust, taking aligned action, healing your relationship with life’s challenges, and ultimately uncovering your dharma—your soul’s purpose. You’ll also hear why finding your purpose isn’t simply about figuring out what job you should have or what you should accomplish next. In yoga philosophy, dharma asks us to consider our unique gifts, experiences, personality and passions—and how those pieces might come together in service to something beyond ourselves. In this episode, you'll explore:Why so many women feel disconnected, numb or lost in midlifeHow reconnecting with your body, thoughts, patterns and inner wisdom creates clarityWhy self-trust is essential before you can take meaningful actionHow fear of other people's opinions can keep you from following what you truly wantThe importance of learning to feel difficult emotions rather than constantly distracting or numbing yourselfHow past challenges can become fuel for growth instead of something that continues to hold you backWhat dharma means in yoga philosophy and how it relates to purpose, meaning and serviceHow meditation, journaling, breathwork and embodied practices can help you hear your own inner guidanceWhat actually happens inside a coaching relationship and how personalized guidance differs from simply consuming more informationCoaching isn’t about giving you all the answers. It’s about helping you hear your own answers more clearly—and developing the self-trust and tools to continue growing long after our work together is complete. If this journey from disconnection and self-doubt to self-trust, alignment and purpose speaks to something you’ve been feeling, I invite you to book a free 20-minute Clarity Call. • 174: Human Design for Midlife Women: Understanding Your Energy, Decisions, Relationships, and Purpose with Erica Voell
    2026/09/14
A conversation with Human Design coach Erica Voell about energy, decision-making, relationships, purpose, and learning to trust the way you were designed. In this episode of The Midlife Spirituality Project, I’m joined by Erica Voell, a Human Design coach for midlife women, for a fascinating conversation about self-understanding, energy, decision-making, relationships, and purpose. So many women arrive in midlife feeling like there is something wrong with them. They wonder why they do things the way they do. Why they need more time to make decisions. Why they feel drained by certain responsibilities but lit up by others. Why their partner, children, or loved ones seem to move through the world so differently. Why they feel pulled toward a deeper understanding of themselves but do not always know where to begin.Human Design offers one lens for understanding these questions. In this conversation, Erica shares how discovering Human Design helped her heal from burnout, change the way she approached her work, and see herself with more compassion. She describes Human Design as a way of connecting the dots so women can begin to see the whole picture of themselves, their relationships, and their families. We talk about the relief that can come when you realize, “There is nothing wrong with me.” Not every part of you needs to be fixed. Not every pattern is a flaw. Sometimes what you have judged in yourself is simply part of how you are designed to move through the world. We also explore Human Design types, authority, decision-making, emotional authority, family dynamics, self-trust, purpose, and the second half of life. From a yoga philosophy perspective, this conversation connects beautifully to svadhyaya, the practice of self-study. The more deeply we understand ourselves, the more freedom we have to live with clarity, compassion, and alignment.Human Design and the Relief of Self-UnderstandingOne of the most powerful themes in this conversation is the relief that comes from understanding yourself more deeply. Many women spend years trying to become more acceptable, more productive, more energetic, more decisive, more peaceful, more easygoing, or more like the people around them. But what if some of the things you have been judging are not flaws? What if your need for time, solitude, rest, clarity, or a different rhythm is not a problem? What if your energy works differently for a reason?Human Design does not remove the need for growth, healing, or self-responsibility. But it can help us distinguish between the patterns that truly need our attention and the parts of ourselves we have been unnecessarily criticizing.Human Design, Decision-Making, and Self-TrustErica and I also talk about decision-making, especially the way so many women second-guess themselves. Some people are designed to make quick decisions from an intuitive knowing. Others need to talk things out. Some need the right environment. Some need to feel whether their heart is truly in it. And some, like those with emotional authority, need time and space before clarity arrives. This part of the conversation is especially helpful for midlife women who are learning to trust their inner wisdom again.Because so often, we were taught to make decisions the way our families, cultures, workplaces, or partners made decisions. Human Design can offer permission to honor your own process instead.Human Design, Relationships, and FamilyAnother beautiful part of this episode is the conversation around relationships. When we understand that the people we love may have a completely different design from our own, we can begin to relate to them with more compassion and less judgment. This can be especially helpful in marriage, parenting, family dynamics, and work relationships.Instead of assuming someone is being difficult, lazy, impulsive, slow, needy, avoidant, or too intense, we can begin to ask: How does this person’s energy work? How do they make decisions? What do they need in order to feel supported? That understanding can soften so much.Human Design, Purpose, and DharmaToward the end of the conversation, Erica and I talk about purpose.Purpose can feel like a loaded word, especially in midlife. We often think our purpose has to be one specific job, role, identity, or calling. But from a yoga philosophy perspective, purpose is more closely connected to our essence — the truth of who we are and how that essence wants to be expressed in the world.Human Design can offer another map for understanding that essence. It may not tell you one exact thing you are supposed to do forever, but it can help you understand your gifts, your energy, your decision-making process, your relationships, and the way you are here to contribute.Listen If You AreCurious about Human DesignIn midlife and wanting to understand yourself more deeplyFeeling like there is something wrong with the way you move through the worldTired of forcing yourself into roles, rhythms, or expectations that do not ...
