In this weekend’s audio chat, WAMN News Anchor Meleva Thorn discusses the Pink Tax issue with fellow reporter Paige Reid. With the cost of living rising, women’s products, including sanitary items and clothing, were described as costing more. Both argued that pads and tampons are necessities for Australian women and questioned why they are not treated like other GST-exempt essentials. Although free sanitary products are increasingly available at Australian schools, universities and TAFEs, access generally does not extend to workers or women outside the education sector. Meleva and Paige also emphasised the importance of consulting women and female-identifying people when developing policies.
