• Genesis 31 - Stay on Your Side of the Line
    2026/09/02

    Send Tim a note

You can have a fantastic relationship with your neighbor but that doesn’t mean they’d make a good roommate. Sometimes the best way to keep things from boiling over into serious conflict is to have a firm, healthy boundary. Good fences make good neighbors, or something like that. We’re in Genesis 31, the part of the story when Jacob finally separates from his father-in-law, Laban, but not without a little high drama. If you feel like you need a refresher on what’s happened up to this point between Jacob and Laban, just go back two chapters to Genesis 29.

  • Matthew 9:35-10:8 - How Much Do You Trust Others?
    2026/09/01

    Send Tim a note

One of the riskiest things you can do is to trust someone else with a project or work that you’re deeply invested in. When we pour ourselves into something we want to make sure it goes well so asking someone else to join in that process can feel precarious. And yet, that’s exactly what Jesus did with his own disciples. We’re in Matthew 9:35 - 10:8, the part of the story where Jesus equips his disciples to do the same kind of ministry he’s been doing.

  • Psalm 31 - When You're Falling Apart
    2026/08/31

    Send Tim a note

Do you have someone in your life that makes you feel so safe that you can fall apart around them and it’s okay? Those people are truly treasures and worthy of our loyalty, ongoing kindness, and love. Occasionally, it’s a good idea to let them know the place they hold in your life. We’re in Psalm 31 where David writes more like an aging king rather than a young shepherd. Still, we see how close he is with the LORD, close enough that he finds the freedom to be completely open.

  • Joshua 20 - Finding Justice in Tragedy
    2026/08/28

    Send Tim a note

How do you respond when tragedy strikes? Amongst other things, I want to know why it happened and who (or what) caused it. Most of us look for someone to take the blame for the devastation that’s taken place. We may point the finger at the person we believe is responsible or maybe a company, nature, “the system”, or even God. The trouble is that we’re not always right or even rational and we need safeguards for those situations. We’re in Joshua 20, the part of the story when Israel establishes cities of refuge for people who didn’t have malice in their hearts.

  • Romans 9:16-33 - When the Word Challenges Us
    2026/08/27

    Send Tim a note

I really like the idea of starting my day with a hot cup of coffee, a quiet room, and some time in Scripture that will make me feel better about life and equipped for my day. Sometimes that happens but then again the room isn’t always quiet and sometimes I’ve forgotten that I’ve run out of cream for my coffee or worse, run out of coffee. And sometimes the Scripture doesn’t make me feel better about life. There are times when it compels me to think deeply and work out what I believe. Sometimes it humbles me. We’re in Romans 9:16-33, one of those deep-thinking passages.

  • Genesis 30 - Is Your Family "Normal"?
    2026/08/26

    Send Tim a note

If I had a dollar for every time someone told me how crazy and messy their family was, I’d have a lot more money than I do now. Families all have a little bit of dysfunction in them, that’s just the nature of people. If you just nodded your head knowingly, I want you to know that even the family that became the nation of Israel had more than its share of family drama. It reminds me that God doesn’t require our perfection in order to be a part of His plan. He understands every quirk and shortcoming and includes us anyway.

  • Matthew 9:18-34 - Yup! Jesus is Really Good!
    2026/08/25

    Send Tim a note

Jesus really is good. Jesus loves you. Sometimes in the midst of sorting out our faith and learning what it means to follow God, we just need those simple but powerful reminders. The man from Nazareth performed plenty of miracles but more than that He met people where they were at and called them into a life that was better. He’s still doing those exact things for us today. We’re in Matthew 9:18-34, the part of the story when Jesus ministered to specific people in specific ways.

  • Psalm 30 - What is Worship All About?
    2026/08/24

    Send Tim a note

Have you ever wondered what the worship time during a church service is all about? I know… I know that you know it’s all about Jesus and yet we want certain things from it don’t we. We want to be included. We want to feel some kind of engagement and definitely to be blessed by the LORD in it. I’ve been contemplating worship throughout my adult life and I can’t help but think that while we always bring ourselves into that moment, it really is about giving God ALL the glory.

We’re in Psalm 30, a song that David wrote for the deduction of the House. We’ll talk about that and more in today’s episode.
