Matthew Snare — Relatable, Raw & Real
Born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and raised on a farm in Floyd County, Virginia, Matthew Snare brings together folk, country, gospel, and rock & roll in a sound rooted in the mountains and his journey through life.
One of six children, Matthew grew up working on the family farm, riding horses, raising cattle, and learning guitar at age 10. He wrote his first song at 13 and has been writing and performing ever since.
In 2013, Matthew moved to Nashville to pursue music, performing on radio and television and founding Matthew Snare’s Nashville Showcase Songwriter Night at Hotel Preston. He eventually returned to Virginia to be close to family and continue making music.
Today, Matthew’s songs are brought to life through guitar, mandolin, harmonica, guitjo, and his unique hobo dobro. His music reflects the mountains, valleys, joys, and struggles of life—and his philosophy is simple: “Music is not to hear. It is to feel.”
