Jesus calls us to lay down anxiety and trust the Father with every part of our lives. He begins with the word “therefore,” connecting this teaching directly to His warning about earthly treasure and divided loyalty. When our focus shifts from Christ to possessions, fear and worry follow. Jesus repeats the command “do not be anxious,” reminding us that our Father knows our needs and cares for us. The Greek phrase mē merimnate reveals that worry often grows from pride—trying to carry tomorrow in our own strength instead of trusting God today. We are called to seek first the Kingdom, to live faithfully in the present moment, and to stop crucifying ourselves between the regrets of yesterday and the worries of tomorrow. When our hearts stay fixed on Jesus, today becomes a place of peace, purpose, and Kingdom effectiveness.
