Daily Bible Reading: Matthew 19, read in full from the World English Bible (WEB).
Matthew 19 finds Jesus on the road into Judea, where the Pharisees test Him on divorce and He takes them back to the beginning: God made them male and female, the two become one flesh, and what God has joined together man must not tear apart. Little children are brought to Him, and when the disciples rebuke them He says, allow the little children to come to me, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to ones like these. A rich young man asks what good thing he must do to have eternal life, and when Jesus calls him to sell all and follow Him, he goes away sad, for he had great possessions. The disciples ask who then can be saved, and Jesus looks at them and answers that with men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Salvation is never something we earn; it is the gift of a God who can do what we never could, and whoever leaves all to follow Christ will receive a hundred times and inherit eternal life.
