What do Prometheus, the Watchers, fire, forbidden knowledge, and a dog-headed Christian have in common?

This week on Martyr’s Row, we begin with one of the strangest stories in early Christian literature: a monstrous dog-headed cannibal who encounters the apostles Andrew and Bartholomew, receives the gospel, and becomes a Christian. The story raises an unexpected question: what actually makes someone human?

Then we turn to Prometheus.

The ancient Greek myth tells of a heavenly being who steals fire and gives it to humanity. But this wasn't merely a story about a useful flame. Fire represented knowledge, craftsmanship, technology, civilization, and humanity's ability to transform the world.

And suddenly the story starts sounding strangely familiar.

We explore the parallels between Prometheus and the forbidden knowledge given to humanity by the Watchers in 1 Enoch, and ask whether the problem is knowledge itself—or what happens when humanity receives knowledge outside of God's intended order.

Is fire bad?

Or have we been asking the wrong question?

Let's find out!

In this episode we look into the tormenting spirit that affects King Saul. What was it? Who sent it? Why was music the antidote? We look into all of this and find some surprising answers. We also look into the story of Jonah and how he may have accidentally fulfilled prophecy! Let's dive in!

Welcome back to Martyr's Row! In this episode we explore the 10 plagues in Egypt and some of the details of what they were and why God chose those for the plagues.
