Today we remember Martyr Longinus the Centurion, a Roman soldier who stood guard at the foot of the Cross during the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Longinus witnessed the Lord’s final moments and the miraculous signs that accompanied His death, leading him to confess, “Truly this was the Son of God.” After Christ’s resurrection, Longinus and his comrades refused to lie about the events they saw. They were baptized, left the military, and preached the Gospel in Cappadocia. Their faith led to martyrdom, but Longinus continued to bring comfort and healing even after death.
