"My fingers had centuries of music in them," says Marc Shaiman, a composer and lyricist with a prolific and impactful career both on Broadway and in Hollywood. He's known for his work in iconic films Hairspray, When Harry Met Sally, and Sleepless in Seattle. He's also won a number of awards including two Emmy's, two Grammy's, a Tony, and more. His new memoir "Never Mind The Happy" is out now. He joined Gianna Volpe to talk about everything from the origin of the book's title to starting the audience participation tradition of Rocky Horror Picture Show. He even breaks into a song a couple of times, but would we expect anything less from "the man who gave Bette Midler 'the wind beneath my wings'"? Marc will be at Guild Hall on June 21st for a live talk with Susan Stroman about the memoir, plus a special guest will join for a live performance celebrating Shaiman’s remarkable body of work. This episode is part of The WNET Group's Broadway and Beyond, a special collection of Broadway and arts programming premiering through May and June. Find more at wliw.org/broadway.
